The Rams have made a roster move. On Saturday the team announced that they have waived rookie outside linebacker Ejuan Price. As a corresponding move, the Rams have promoted outside linebacker Carlos Thompson from their practice squad. The move comes as a bit of a surprise, as the Rams used a seventh-round draft pick to select Price in the most recent draft.
Thompson is listed at six foot five inches tall, 250 pounds. Spending this season on the Rams practice squad, Thompson went undrafted in the 2015 draft. As an undrafted free agent, he signed with the Texans but only lasted a season in Houston before being waived.
After landing on the Rams practice squad after training camp with the team, Thompson knows the system well. That is certainly a good thing, as Thompson could very likely find himself active and contributing on Sunday. With Connor Barwin out due to injury, rookie Samson Ebukam will get the start with a rotation of players contributing. Thompson may get a chance to chance to be one of those contributors, especially on run downs. Likely set to be active for his first NFL game on Sunday, rest assured that Thompson won’t need anyone to help him get fired up.
Price was drafted by LA out of the University of Pittsburgh in the 2017 NFL Draft. Coming into the league it was anticipated that Price’s best shot to carve out a role would be as a situational pass rusher. The rookie worked hard in training camp and was able to land a roster spot. While he did find a roster spot, Price has been active for just one game all season. The rookie was able to find the field in that game, getting some special team works in week 1o against the Texans.
Furthermore, if Price clears waivers it is likely the Rams will place him on their practice squad. Without a doubt, if the Rams see anything in Price they will look to keep him around, as they spent valuable draft capital on him.
The Rams lack depth at outside linebacker on Sunday and made a roster move to accommodate that. Sure, they just waived one outside linebacker and promoted another, but Thompson is the complete player if he needs to play a high volume of snaps. All is not lost for Price, either. The rookie could be claimed by a new team or brought back to the Rams practice squad. Without a doubt, Price will end up somewhere.
