Courtland Sutton 2018 NFL Draft Profile with Video.

Courtland Sutton is a wide receiver from SMU that measures in at 6’4” 215 pounds. Sutton has an NFL ready body that is a mismatch for small corners. He is so athletic he made SMU’s basketball team as a freshman and is the definition of a red zone threat with upside.

Sutton is also natural pass catcher who catches with arms extended away from the body and snatches the ball well. A natural pass catcher is someone who doesn’t let the ball get into his body but rather attacks the ball as you can see here.

He is more of a glider than a speedster but put up great YAC (yards after catch) numbers, defenders always take bad angles in pursuit. There are a few unofficial high school combines that had him in the low 4.5 range for the 40-yard dash. Sutton also likes to talk trash and is seen every game getting into arguments with the other team. He always plays tough through the end of the whistle and is not afraid to lower his shoulder. Hard to find plays where he goes out of bounds on his own, seems to love contact.

There is not a lot of film of Sutton run blocking, the Mustang’s scheme had him running dummy routes instead. His body and length however should translate well to blocking in the NFL.

Player Comparison: A.J. Green

The comparisons to A.J. Green are uncanny with almost an exact height and weight for the two. I do not believe he is on that level yet but Green is Sutton’s ceiling.

Draft position- Top 10 overall

Sutton could go anywhere from pick #2 with the 49ers or could drop down to the middle of the first round if Calvin Ridley or Equanimeous St. Brown blow the doors off at the combine. With seven of the top sixteen teams in the draft as of now needing major help at the wide receiver position Sutton will not be waiting long to hear his named called on draft night.
