Welcome to Week 17 of the NFL Regular Season, the regular season finale for your New England Patriots. The Jets will be playing for pride and the spoiler role as they try to beat New England to drop them to the AFC #2 seed. Patriots/Jets games are always interesting, and with New England still banged up, the Jets could pose a serious threat to homefield advantage throughout the playoffs. James Harrison will make his Patriots debut today, so let’s see if his addition makes a difference in the pass rush and setting the edge against the run.

15:00- The Patriots will receive to open today’s game. It is ridiculously cold out here today. Tom Brady and the offense will be pass-heavy today.

14:45- Nine yard run by Lewis on the 1st play of the game; 2nd & 1…

14:26- Four-yard run by Lewis, 1st down. 1st & 10..

14:00- Amendola with the catch for 16, 1st down.

13:41- Eight yard run by Lewis; good balance so far.

13:19- Amendola for nine more, 1st & 10…

13:02- Missed block leads to a loss of three for Lewis, 2nd & 13…

12:25- Swing pass to Lewis on 2nd & long. Odd playcall leads to zero yards. 3rd & 13…

11:46- Amendola picks up 11, and because of this cold, they will go for it on 4th & 2 from the 21…

11:00- 1st down, Patriots. Amendola again.

10:33- Cooks picks up seven on the quick outside pass, 2nd & 3…

9:58- Lewis picks up the 1st down, Patriots setup with 1st & Goal from the Jets three…

9:30- Touchdown, Patriots!! Lewis takes it in from three yards out, and the Patriots get the fast start they were looking for. If they can get a stop and get the offense back on the field fast, they can break the Jets will early. The Jets are 5-10 with nothing to play for, if they go down fast, they are checking out. Patriots 7, Jets 0

P.S.- I guess I was wrong with the heavy pass attack, although it is only one drive.

9:27- Awesome kickoff coverage, and the Jets will begin the series at their own 13.

8:44- Good job on the 1st & 2nd down, 3rd & 14…

8:07- Jets pickup nine on the run, but they are forced to punt. New England takes over at their own 34.

7:40- Cooks with the eight yard reception on 1st down; 2nd & 2…

7:08- 1st down run by Lewis as he gains three; 1st & 10 from the 45.

6:33- Lewis gains three on the run, 2nd & 7…

5:53- Holding on the Jets gives the Patriots another 1st down. 1st & 10 from the 49.

5:46- Brady misses Cooks deep because he slowed down, a BIG mistake. 2nd & 10…

5:40- Now Cooks drops an easy catch; 3rd & 10….

5:32- Brady sacked, and they can thank Brandin Cooks for blowing that series. He should have scored on 1st down, had all the blocking setup and dropped the ball on 2nd, and then the Jets make the sack on the obvious pass down. I don’t care if it’s cold, Cooks needs to step it up and make those plays. 1st & 10, Jets, from the Patriots 17.

4:42- 15-yard gain by the Jets on 1st down. New England had a chance to run away with this game, but now the Jets are getting confident. 24 more yards on the next play; not good. 1st & 10 from the Patriots 37.

4:00- 15 more, and the defense looks awful. Every play went away from Harrison, who actually had a very good pass rush on the last down.

2:50- Guy with the big play for a loss of eight; 2nd & 18 from the Patriots 29.

2:22- Another loss, 3rd & 19…

1:47- Incomplete pass, and the Jets are going to try a 47-yard field goal in this frigid cold. Tough kick….but he drilled it. Elandon Roberts needs to wake up, he is the reason for the 24 yard run that setup that score. Harrison looked good on the two plays they ran to his side. Patriots 7, Jets 3

1:33- 1st down on the swing pass to Lewis, 1st & 10 from the 35.

:59- Loss of two on the run by Lewis, 2nd & 12…

:30- Brady rushed into a shovel pass, which was incomplete. 3rd & 12…

:26- Amendola runs the wrong route, and all of a sudden the Patriots are playing like the Jets. They better wake up, because Pittsburgh may have rested their starters, but they are still winning in Cleveland. Wake up, Patriots. 1st & 10, Jets, from the Patriots 13 after great punt coverage.

:00- Nine yard loss on the strong read by Marquis Flowers, and the Jets will face 2nd & 10to start the 2nd quarter. Odd quarter for New England; they started on fire, but the offense is having braincramps now. Let’s see if the defense can get them the ball back so they can get things going again. Patriots 7, Jets 3

SECOND QUARTER

15:00- Here we go again. Huge play, and a late hit to add 15. The Jets are now at the Patriots 36. Wow.

14:26- One-yard gain, 2nd & 9…

13:50- The Patriots might as well give teams the ball at their 30, because they are guaranteed to give up yardage on every series. 2nd & 8 from the Patriots 27…

12:35- Incomplete shovel pass, 3rd & 8…

12:33- Incomplete pass, and the Jets will attempt another field goal.

12:33- Field goal is no good from 40 yards out, and that was directly affected by the strong wind on that end of the stadium. Bad defense and all, the Patriots find a way to hold the Jets to zero points. That is why they are 5-10. Patriots take over at their own 30. Patriots 7, Jets 3

11:54- 3rd & 7 already; the Patriots just can’t get the passing game going.

11:32- Brady sacked, and the awful play from the offense continues. Todd Bowles and the Jets are doing a good job, but a lot of this is self-inflicted. BTW- the Steelers just scored again, and they are up 14-0. Remember, with a Patriots loss and a Steelers win, Pittsburgh would steal homefield from New England. Patriots 7, Jets 3

10:46- Malcom Brown with the nice play, making the tackle for a loss of one. 2nd & 11…

10:11- Devin McCourty, how do you miss that tackle? 1st & 10, Jets.

9:37- Thankfully Petty stinks, because that should have been an eight to 12 yard gain, at least. 2nd & 10…

9:20- Guy with another nice play, no gain. 3rd & 10…Jets call timeout.

8:47- Dropped pass forces the Jets to punt; better series on defense, but it didn’t hurt that the Jets made two mistakes. The Patriots will take over at their own 27.

8:30- Dorsett with the drop; self inflicted mistakes…

8:24- Gross throw by Brady on the rollout; 3rd & 10 already. This is just ugly.

8:18- Patriots get a gift on the hold in the secondary; 1st & 10…

8:03- Four-yard run by Lewis, 2nd & 6…

7:37- Five-more on the Lewis run, 3rd & 1…

7:16- Great play by Lewis to fight through tackle to pick up the 1st. 1st & 10…

6:04- DPI on the Jets, Patriots will have the ball at the Jets 14. It would have been a catch, so they had to interfere. 1st & 10 from the Jets 13.

5:46- Two yard gain by Lewis, 2nd & 8…

4:53- After Lewis gained nine on the swing pass, he runs for two on 1st & Goal. 2nd & Goal from the five…

4:14- Touchdown, Patriots!! Cooks gets open in the middle of the coverage and makes the catch for the much needed score. Gostkowski drilled the extra point, and New England appears to be waking up. Patriots 14, Jets 3

4:09- No flag on the hold of Jones on the punt leads to a decent return. The refs can’t miss that, it was obvious.

3:25- Two-yard loss on the run, Jets facing 3rd & 11 from their own 26…

2:39- Sack by Marquis Flowers! He has played well lately, another guy that was nothing but a special teams player before the Patriots traded for him. The Patriots offense takes over at their own 40.

1:55- 11-yard catch by Dorsett on 1st down; the good catch gives New England a 1st down, and they’re already in Jets territory. 1st & 10 from the Jets 47…

1:50- Bolden run for nine more, 2nd & 1…

1:20- Bolden picks up the 1st down. 1st & 10….

1:02- Encroachment by the Jets, 1st & 5 from the Jets 30…

:57- Incomplete pass, looked like DPI, but it wasn’t called. 2nd & 5…

:51- Incomplete pass to Amendola, 3rd & 5…

:45- Another hold by the Jets secondary, and the Patriots get another 1st down from a Jets mistake.

:41- Incomplete, and it looked like a Jet tipped it. This is ugly offense.

:33- Lewis picks up nine on the catch, 3rd & 1…

:23- End around to Cooks goes for 18 yards and a 1st down. Brady made a great block on the play. 1st & Goal, Patriots called timeout to stop the clock. They have two timeouts remaining.

:20- Touchdown, Patriots!! Lewis with another touchdown, this time a catch, to put the Patriots ahead by three scores. The extra point was good. Patriots 21, Jets 3

:00- That is the end of the first half, and the Patriots will have an 18-point lead to start the second half. The Jets will receive, and if they can’t get an early score, this game could get ugly. The Patriots offense has not been good today, regardless of the score. The Jets have made a ton of mistakes, and their penalties in the secondary are the difference in this game. Patriots 21, Jet 3

END OF THE 1ST HALF

THIRD QUARTER

15:00- Missed tackle leads to a strong return, Jets start the drive at their own 31.

14:50- Trey Flowers with the tackle for one on 1st, 2nd & 9…

14:09- 3rd & 5 after the four-yard catch by Tomlinson.

13:30- James Harrison with a great tackle on the play, limiting the Jets to nothing and forcing the punt. Patriots take over at their own nine after a penalty on the return.

12:50- Seven yard run by Lewis, 2nd & 3…

12:15- Loss of one by Lewis, 3rd & 4…

11:37- Brady floated one to Cooks, and he couldn’t battle back for the ball. If that throw was in stride, that is a touchdown. That is what happens when the wind chill is -3. The Jets take over at their own 40.

11:30- Four yard run, 2nd & 6…

10:44- Incomplete pass down the sideline, 3rd & 6…Jets are forced to call a timeout.

10:40- Petty sails one and the Jets are forced to punt. If the Patriots offense can put together a touchdown drive, they can essentially put this game away, even with this amount of time left. Patriots 21, Jets 3

10:26- Incomplete pass, 2nd & 10…

10:21- End around, again, and this time it was easily sniffed out. You cannot run that play twice in two quarters, it just won’t work. 3rd & 12…

9:35- Bolden drops the pass in the flat, and the Patriots are forced to punt. I thought the Patriots would win this game through the air, but it appears that they are having more success running and then using play-action. Run it, that will keep the clock moving and open up the passing game. Jets take over at their own 39.

9:12- Guy and Brown stuff the Jets after a gain of one; 2nd & 9…

8:41- Good pass rush, and after the incomplete pass, Anderson spiked it into Bedamosi’s face. Not cool. 3rd & 9…

8:12- Jets are forced to punt after a gain of six, and the Patriots will take over at their own 25 after the touchback. It is pretty obvious that the cold is messing with these guys, but this is December/January/February football is- challenging due to weather and injuries.

7:12- Lewis gains six after the first down catch by Dorsett; 2nd & 5 from the Patriots 36…

6:38- No gain on the run by Lewis, 3rd & 5…

5:57- Nice run after the catch by Bolden gives the Patriots another 1st down. 1st & 10 from the 43.

5:14- Lewis with good patience leading to a 17 yard run. 1st & 10…

4:40- Cooks picks up 21 on….wait for it…play action! I swear someone said that would work…

4:00- Lewis picks up five more on the run, 2nd & 5 from the Jets 14.

3:24- What a run by Lewis. He waited for the block to develop, and then exploded for 10 and another 1st down.

2:46- One yard gain by Lewis; 2nd & Goal…

2:08- Bolden runs for three, 3rd & Goal…

1:32- Brady misses a wide-open Cooks on what should have been a game-sealing touchdown. Gostkowski came in and drilled the 21-yard field goal to make it a three-touchdown game. Patriots 24, Jets 3

1:23- Jets take over at their own 21, 1st & 10…

1:08- This Harrison situation is weird. He just made a tackle, and he drilled Gilmore in the process. He didn’t help him up when Gilmore was waiting for it. I’m sorry, that is very odd. He also stood alone during the National Anthem. I’m not sure he’s comfortable in a Patriots uniform, but that makes sense. Regardless, help your teammate up.

:31- Incomplete pass, and the Jets will punt again. Amendola took an extra bump, but there was no penalty because the defender barely hit him. It was NOT malicious.

:03- Stupid pass play is broken up, and the clock stops on 2nd down. Run. The. Ball. 2nd & 10…

:00- Lewis gains eight on the catch, giving New England a manageable 3rd & 2 to start the 4th quarter. Any score here, touchdown or field goal, and the Patriots should pull Brady, Lewis, and Cooks. Don’t mess around, 27-3 in the 4th should get the job done. We’ll see how this series goes. Patriots 24, Jets 3

FOURTH QUARTER

15:00- 37 yard by Cooks sets the Patriots up at the Jets 29.

13:49- Incomplete pass to Allen on 2nd & 7; bad throw, but Brady wanted to put it where the defenders weren’t.

13:38- There had to be a miscommunication on that play; Brady was called for intentional grounding, which was an AWFUL call. Awful. Gostkowski came out initially, but after the bogus penalty, the Patriots decided to punt. Yes, New England has got a lot of calls today, but that was bad. Awesome job on the punt; Allen coffin-cornered it and Slater sprinted down and caught the ball at the five. THAT is why he is in the Pro-Bowl every year. Patriots 24, Jets 3

11:39- Dumb penalty by Gilmore and a huge play down the field gives the Jets a chance to make something happen. That penalty was just flat-out stupid.

10:37- McCourty dropped a sure interception, but he broke up the play. 3rd & 9…

10:32- Gilmore breaks up the pass, and the Jets will attempt a field goal.

10:32- Field goal is good, the first points the Patriots defense has allowed in the 4th quarter in five games. Going for a field goal doesn’t make a lot of sense there, but I guess Todd Bowles is looking at that as a positive end to a drive. He is trying to get these guys to make more good plays, so ending a drive with points gives his team confidence…that’s the only reason to kick. Patriots 24, Jets 6

10:25- One yard gain by Lewis, 2nd & 9…

9:34- Another 1st down off of a penalty, this time it negated a sack. DUUUUUMB. 1st & 10, Patriots…

8:59- 20 yard run by Bolden, and that is what they should do. Hand it to Bolden.

8:23- Bolden runs for two, 2nd & 8…

7:11- 3rd & 3, and they run ANOTHER end around. Ugh. 4th down, Patriots will punt.

6:42- Slater and Allen do it again. The Jets are pinned back at their own five. Hopefully Gilmore and the rest of the defense avoids a dumb penalty and big plays on this series. Patriots 24, Jets 6

6:11- 3rd & 7, Jets…

6:04- Safety, Patriots!! Eric Lee makes the sack for the safety, and two more points go on the board for New England. With a 20 point lead and the Patriots getting the ball, it is safe to say the Jets are in trouble, and New England will be home for the playoffs. Brian Hoyer is warming up on the Patriots sideline. Patriots 26, Jets 6

5:53- Bolden runs for no gain, which is just fine. Run it, kill this clock, and get the heck out of here. 2nd & 10…

5:13- New England foolishly throws deep, incomplete. 3rd & 10…

5:06- Dorsett gains five on the catch, and the Patriots are forced to punt.

*Jets had 12 men on the field, giving the Patriots another 1st down. Wow.

4:40- Three yard run by Bolden, and it is clock-killing time. 2nd & 7…

3:50- Bolden takes it for two more.

With the clock ticking down on an other regular season, I want to thank all of you who have supported me through 2017, and 2018 promises to be even better with the Full Press Coverage team.

The Jets are using garbage time to try and score a touchdown. I’m not going to waste your time updating padded stats, especially on New Years. Thanks for joining us, and everyone please be safe tonight.

Happy New Year!! We’ll see you all in two weeks when the Patriots face their first playoff opponent of the 2017 season.
