2018 Titans draft profile
Name: Ogbonnia Okoronkwo
Pos: OLB/DE
School: Oklahoma
Height: 6’1″
Weight: 243 pounds
Projected round: 3-4
Of all the edge rushers I’ve watched this off-season, Okoronkwo is the most consistent player to the football of any of them. He plays the game with great abandon and has several attributes that will serve him well on the professional level. He may be a little undersized in some schemes but if he is put in a position to maximize his strengths then he is a great pick in the 3rd round and an absolute steal in the 4th. Lets take a look at this Walter Camp first team All-American.
Speed
Okoronkwo has a blistering first step at the line of scrimmage. He gets off the ball almost as rapidly as the offensive lineman he’s beating. In this clip against Ohio State, he makes a simple out fake then blows by the offensive tackle to the quarterback. The play was over practically before it started because there was no time to look downfield.
Again, this time against Iowa State from the other side of the defense Okoronkwo flat-out runs by the tackle that has not only has the responsibility for picking him up but is looking at him the entire time before the play. The tackle still couldn’t get there.
Competitiveness
There are similarities in the next two clips. The thing to take away from both of them is that this is how he plays. Full speed all over the field.
In the first one Okoronkwo engages an offensive lineman but when the play goes outside with a swing pass he turns, gets off the block and gets to the football. The relentless “run to the ball” attitude is pure gold.
In the second clip, even though he gets pushed past the pocket he stays with the play and collects a sack. Some players have the “wanna” and some players have the “I can”. Ogbonnia Okoronkwo is a player that has both. Now if we can get him a Titans Jersey to go with those.
