The Kirk Cousins era has ended in Washington, D.C. It has been reported that a trade has been agreed upon between the Kansas City Chiefs to send veteran quarterback Alex Smith to the Redskins for a third round pick in the 2018 draft and an unnamed player.
Smith is scheduled to make just north of $20 million in 2018. With this move, the Kansas City Chiefs will save $17 million against the salary cap.
According to Adam Schefter, the Washington Redskins and Smith have agreed to a four year extension. This extension will keep Smith in Washington for the next five years and give the Redskins stability at a position where they desperately need it.
Alex Smith will average $23.5 million per year in new money on the four-year extension with approximately $70 million in guaranteed money on the agreement between the two sides, per @mortreport. There is no official contract or paperwork so agreement in principle right now.

The trade and contract extension cannot be finalized until the start of the league new year at 3:00PM on March 14th.
Su’a Cravens was reported by several beat writers to be apart of the Smith deal, but after some digging and more reliable sources, it was reported it was not Cravens.
We will see how this effects the Redskins spending on free agents and whether they try to bring Bashaud Breeland back. You can never be 100% sure in the NFL about anything until it happens, but as of tonight, the Redskins will most likely not be drafting a quarterback with their 13th overall pick.

It’s been a pleasure, my friend @KeFu11er
I have a lot of respect for you. The Chiefs are getting a hell of a player. Because what you do, leading up to Sundays, is what makes you special
Talent is everywhere. But not the intangibles a guy like you brings to the table
