LaFleur On The Move
For the second straight season, Matt LaFleur is moving. LaFleur, who spent last season as the offensive coordinator for the Los Angeles Rams, has been hired to the same position by the Tennessee Titans. After firing former head coach Mike Mularkey a few weeks ago the Tennessee Titans have decided to start fresh under new head coach Mike Vrabel. It is a promotion for LaFleur even though the title remains the same. He will be the offensive play caller for the Titans. A job that was fulfilled in Los Angeles by the head coach.
The Offense
Last season, the Los Angeles Rams finished the season as the top scoring offense in all of football. averaging In 2016, under former coach Jeff Fisher, the Rams offense ranked last in football. It averaged a meager 14.0 points per game as opposed to 29.9 points per game last year. His offensive track record dates back further than that glowing success. Before being the offensive coordinator for the Rams, LaFleur served as the quarterbacks’ coach for the Atlanta Falcons for two seasons. His tenure coaching the quarterbacks included helping Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan win his first MVP.
Expectations
Fleur has shown he is capable of taking offensive weapons and producing at a high level. Tennessee Titans promising quarterback Marcus Mariota, who played through a nagging hamstring injury most of last season, struggled. Mariota easily had his worst season as a pro, highlighted by throwing only 13 touchdowns and 15 interceptions. The Titans offense loaded with raw talent and a power running game is in place. Expect LaFleur to have this offense drastically improved. Tennessee is clearly sending a message with this hire; they are ready to take the next step and are ready to contend for divisional supremacy and a shot at a Super Bowl.
