2018 Jets Draft Prospect Profile
Name: Sony Michel
Position: RB
School: Georgia
Height: 5’11”
Weight: 215 pounds
Stats:
Run Style:
While teammate Nick Chubb may have hogged more of the spotlight during his time in Georgia, fellow senior Michel has established himself as a top prospect in his own right. Michel is an explosive runner with surprising power as he stands at only 5’11” 215lbs. He’s proved he has the agility to avoid defenders, or run through them if necessary.
Agility:
That being said, Michel’s agility propels him even more. He’s shown that he possesses the skills and technique to turn corners quick and find an open hole in the nick of time. His smaller frame has allowed him to be quick on his toes while still maintaining dominant strength. Not to mention that he has excelled at catching the edge when the team needs him most.

Speed:
Michel may posses some of the best speed out of all running backs available in the draft. Even in games when Chubb amassed 200 yards and multiple TD’s, Michel still came out and flashed his athleticism. He’s proven he can quickly change directions on the run without losing speed, thus causing a slew of missed tackles.
Hands:
While Chubb is more of a bruiser, Michel has been a dual threat in both the running and passing game. In his four years at Georgia, Michel hauled in 64 receptions for 621 yards and 6 six touchdowns. His speed and agility have played a big part in making his game more versatile. He can be quite lethal not only out of the backfield, but in the slot as well.
Sony Michel has the acceleration and speed of a wide receiver, playing running back. That’s a heck of a weapon for any offense. #NFLDraft #NationalChampionship #GoDawgs

Jets Fit:
With Matt Forte likely a friendly cut this offseason, the Jets will have a hole at running back. Bilal Powell and Elijah McGuire are quality backs, but neither has flashed as a top-line, number one option.
The Jets may need to upgrade their backfield this offseason. Michel propelled Georgia the national title game by running for 1,227 yards and 16 touchdowns in 2017. Though he has been overshadowed by companion Chubb, Michel certainly seems to possess all of the qualities of a proficient NFL running back.
