2018 Raiders Draft Prospect Profile
Name: Key’vantanie (Keke) Coutee
Position: WR
School: Texas Tech
Height: 5’10”
Weight: 180
Stats
Hands
Despite his limited size, Coutee expands his catch radius with ease. As a result, the quarterback can throw to him in quite a few spots. To his credit, Coutee will run under a deep pass or lay out for a sideline dart with ease.
Speed
Without a doubt, this is the hallmark of his game is his speed. At the snap, Coutee streaks by the defender. If a corner allows a free release or plays off, Coutee beats him deep. However, there is explosive speed, which is based on a quick build-up and electric speed. Coutee possesses the electric ability to get vertical and gain the edge on any cornerback.
In addition to embarrassing corners, Coutee uses his blinding speed in multiple ways. While in Lubbock, Coutee lined up in the backfield.
Route Running/Route Tree:
At Texas Tech, Coutee ran an uncomplicated route tree. Mostly, he ran the go, skinny post, and screen. However, this highlighted his strengths. If you are looking for a versatile, number one wideout that opens up the entire tree, Coutee may not work for you.
Agility
At the next level, Coutee’s quickness will make him a better wideout. Now, his nimbleness consists of an extraordinary stop/start and ability to make a corner flinch with the threat of the deep pattern
Raiders Fit
In reality, new Raiders receivers coach Edgar Bennett is perfect to mentor Coutee. When Bennett coached in Green Bay, he tutored Randall Cobb. If you line them up, Coutee could give the Raiders a speedy version. From slot mismatches and destroying safety help, Coutee inserts much needs speed into the offense. Also, look for Coutee to occasionally run a jet sweep.
On special teams, the Raiders could finally employ a threat to score on returns. Jalen Richard does not have the blurring speed that Coutee can offer. The Raiders need to win the field position battle more. Granted, Derek Carr and the offense can sustain an 80-yard drive, but starting at the 45 instead of the 20 increases the chances to score. Not to mention, speed in the return game forces special teamers to play tight. If there is daylight, Coutee will score.
