Don’t Sleep On These Titans
The 2018 NFL season is coming up soon. The Titans have a young offense but a few players are building steam with their performances last season. They are on track to have a breakout season this year. Don’t sleep on these top three breakout candidates in 2018 for the Titans. Marcus Mariota, Corey Davis, and Derek Henry. These three players are the core of the Titans offense along with Taylor Lewan, Jack Conklin, Dion Lewis and Rishard Matthews.
I recently wrote about Marcus Mariota and why he is primed for a breakout year in 2018. Matt Lefleur is going to get a lot of Mariota’s 2018 breakout year credit. Looking at Lefleur’s history and the quarterbacks he has worked with and their success. Quarterbacks benefit from working with Matt Lefleur. Jared Goff, RGIII his rookie year, Matt Ryan during his super bowl run and Kirk Cousins all benifited.
Mariota has all the talent and ability to be a top ten quarterback in this league. The one thing he has lacked to assist him in putting him into the top ten discussions of current quarterbacks is a great offensive coaching staff. He has the coaches and the offensive weapons this year to shine and he will. Expect 30+ touchdowns from Mariota this year through the air and a couple more on the ground!
Corey Davis is a freak athlete and everyone saw glimpses of that in the divisional round of the playoffs against the Patriots. He is healthy starting this year, that’s important because he was injured off and on last season. As a rookie wide receiver, it is already tough to come in day one and be effective. You have to learn a new system, a new speed of the game and a new quarterback throwing to you.
This is because quarterback’s and wide receivers take time to build chemistry, especially if the quarterback is young and learning the system himself. Mariota and Corey Davis are going through growing pains together. They’ll both get it on track this year. Davis becomes the clear number one wide receiver for the Titans middle of the season. Expect 870 yards and 8 touchdowns this season from Corey Davis.
The Titans tractor of a running back Derrick Henry will be rolling through defenses like a John Deere harvesting corn! Henry’s first two season’s in the NFL was stuck behind another known running back in Demarco Murray. The 2016 season Murray was the clear starter and earned it. For most of the 2017 season, Murry was injured but Mularkey was stubborn. Henry got the starting role late in the season going into the playoffs. He rushed for 1,234 yards and ten touchdowns despite playing behind Murray the first two years . Henry was able to put up 744 yards and 5 touchdowns as a back up running back in 2017.
Expect to see Henry being the featured running back in 2018. Dion Lewis will be a great complimentary back taking up most of the passing game from the backfield for the Titans. This 2018 season expect to see Dereck Henry put up 1,075 yards and nine touchdowns on the ground and pound. Don’t sleep NFL.
