Ben Detrick of the Ringer released one of the most peculiar NBA stories in quite some time. The GM has apparently using five different Twitter accounts to criticize his players and disclose private information regarding his players’ health and trades. The players that the accounts took shots at include Jahlil Okafor, Nerlens Noel, Markelle Fultz, and Joel Embiid. He bashed a mentor of Markelle Fultz’s for his shooting form. Another account furthered a theory that a Jahlil Okafor fell through because of a failed physical. He also Nerlens Noel a “selfish punk.”
Center Joel Embiid responded to one of Colangelo’s supposed burner accounts:

The 76ers have launched a private investigation of the situation. To this point, Colangelo has denied all of these Tweets. Despite these denials, in a statement to the Ringer, Colangelo admitted to using the account @Phila1234567 in order to “monitor our industry and other current events.” He also pleaded that “This storyline is disturbing to me on many levels, as I [Colangelo] am not familiar with any of the other accounts that have been brought to my attention, nor do I [Colangelo] know who is behind them or what their motives may be in using them.”
The 2005 Executive of The Year claims that “someone is out to get him” and hopes to resolve this situation swiftly. If this story turns out to be true, it would not bode well for the Kevin Durant of general managers.
