With the 23rd pick in the MLB Draft, the New York Yankees have selected Anthony Seigler, a catcher from Cartersville High School in Cartersville, Georgia.
There isn’t a prospect in the draft quite like Seigler. Not only does Seigler hit with pop from both sides of the plate, but he can also catch at a very high level, play all around the diamond, and pitch from both sides of the plate. Yes, on top of being a switch-hitter, Seigler is a switch-pitcher.
However, he was drafted for his bat, and not his arm. But having insane defensive versatility doesn’t hurt either. He doesn’t have the same bat as Joey Bart, but Seigler could be the draft’s second-best catcher at both hitting and overall value.
Seigler is likely going to debut as the Yankees’ fifth-best prospect, as Gleyber Torres will likely graduate from prospect status prior to MLB Pipeline’s first update.
