It’s Veasy Season #VSYSZN
Recently FPC_Titans own Edward Oliver IV had an opportunity to talk with Jordan Veasy. Veasy is an undrafted free agent from the University of California by way of Golden West College, signed by the Tennessee Titans. In a previous article, “Rooting for Jordan Veasy” Mr. Oliver outlined why he personally thought Veasy had a great chance to make the Titans. Now take a couple of minutes and get to know Jordan Veasy.
Edward Oliver IV:
“Jordan were you shocked when you got the call? Where were you when you received it?”
Jordan Veasy:
“I was at home with my family and that was a crazy ordeal. As a priority free agent type of guy, I had a bunch of people calling me. I ended up speaking with the Titans first and the Titans and I could not come to terms with that first conversation. They wanted a decision before the draft ended. I could not give them a for certain answer at the time because I had a set list of teams that were interested in me. The Titans were at the top of that list. I was keeping in contact with Titans college scout Dale Thompson and Wide receiver coach Rob Moore throughout the draft.
After the draft ended and I wasn’t drafted by a team and I ended up speaking with the Titans again and agreeing to terms. The whole experience was very subtle and after agreeing to terms I went outside and told my father and family that I just signed with the Titans and that I will be out in Nashville and the celebration with family started.”
Edward Oliver IV:
“Is it fair to say being in the NFL is a lifelong dream of yours?”
Jordan Veasy:
“I could always picture myself in the NFL. As I got older the dream grew more within myself. If you asked me when I was younger, I would have said I wanted to be a professional athlete in all sports. I loved to play football and baseball. As I grew older I started to play to my strengths and said that I knew the talent that I had and that I had always played football ever since I was 5 years old. My dad coached me in football up until middle school. My big goal and dream while growing up in Alabama was to be the big man on campus playing football at a division 1 college. I achieved that goal when I ended up playing at the University of California. After playing football at Golden West College, a top-rated community college for football.
I got to reflect on my journey to where I am now and I am extremely proud of myself. Seeing where I started and where I have ended up after achieving one of my lifelong goals of playing football for a Division 1 college. Now I am focusing on my professional career in the NFL.”
Edward Oliver IV:
“Do you have any pregame rituals or superstitions?”
Jordan Veasy:
“I am not a very superstitious person. I am a very spiritually grounded person. As long as my spiritual self and my mental and emotional self is all intact I can go out and do what I have to do. I do have one I would consider. I have a rope that I wear around my ankle and I usually put it in my sock. The rope represents to me holding on to that rope and that god represents the rope. If I am in any type of adversity, the rope reminds me to hold on to the rope and be strong and do whatever I have to do no matter what is in front of me. The rope is a symbol and product of my faith more than a ritual.”

Edward Oliver IV:
“What motivates you to overcome every challenge in your life and keeps you pushing for more?”
Jordan Veasy:
“Knowing who I want to be and knowing what I want to do motivates me. The people that support me and love me and have helped me through all the obstacles. Even though I went through my own journey by myself, I wasn’t really by myself. There were always people there for me, even though there weren’t many people. The close ones to me were always there, knowing when I wanted help. “ You can say it, you can have it, you can do it, but you have to be able to live it yourself”. When I was trying to accomplish my dreams that “ It was never about being a better football player, It was always about being a better man” and that’s how I approached it and that football is just a byproduct of it.”
Edward Oliver IV:
“Who was your favorite NFL athlete growing up and why?”
Jordan Veasy:
“My favorite football player changed a couple times. I was a huge Marvin Harrison fan because I loved Peyton Manning. Terrel Owens was also a guy i looked up to. I was infatuated with him because he was another Alabama guy. I noticed I had similar physical abilities and attributes to Terrel Owens. My family and I grew up as big Cowboys fans so I also admired Dez Bryant, because I looked up to him for his demeanor, attitude and how he played his game. Cam Newton also inspired me, I will never forget Cam’s coming out games against Clemson before everyone knew who Cam Newton was and that was a great game, that man was amazing.”
Edward Oliver IV:
“Why should the Titans keep you over any other WR’s that might be also trying to make the team right now?”
Jordan Veasy:
“Because I am dependable and reliable and I am also a very smart football player. I understand the game a lot, head coach Mike Vrabel and the Titans motto is “ Know what to do, play fast and aggressive” I always pride myself in knowing what to do. I grew up always being the coaches kid as my dad coached me in football up until middle school. My dad told me before I started playing high-school football “ You will play over those guys any day because you will be able to learn the playbook faster than any of them”. That is something that sets me apart from some other players are my study habits off the field.
I want to be the best overall player so I make sure I work on my game on and off the field to get better. My best football is still ahead of me even though I am working hard to improve myself right now and that the sky is the limit for me.”
“Being a competitor from a very competitive city in Alabama I love to compete and love to get after people. “ I don’t feel like I am entitled to anything, so I come in here every day trying to prove myself” I have the determination and drive to prove myself and be a guy that the coaches can not say no to.”
Edward Oliver IV:
“Is there a role model or important person or family member that has been your biggest supporter throughout your life?”
Jordan Veasy:
“I can not name a sole person it is a conjoint effort. My mom, dad, and sisters have always been there for me through everything. I would not say I am a “Recluse” or anything and I have other people. I was there for myself a lot. Knowing what I want in life and how I wanted to do it helped. Also having the lord with me by my side. That and the reminder from the rope on my ankle to symbolize that help.”
