According to Dan Graziano of ESPN, Patriots wide receiver, Julian Edelman will have his appeal Monday for a pending four-game suspension The suspension stems from Edelman’s supposed violation of the league’s substance abuse policy. According to Graziano’s sources, the Edelman camp is said to be “mounting a vigorous defense”.
Edelman has denied that he knowingly took a banned substance and subsequent reports about an “unrecognized substance” lend credence to that thought. In addition, according to Graziano’s sources, the league has made several missteps in it’s handling of the test and information. Surprising, I know. Therefore, there is a belief that Edelman may have a shot to reduce or eliminate the suspension altogether. Additionally, the 32-year-old wideout hired New York-based attorney, Alex Spiro to head his appeal with Roger Goodell and the league office.
For a receiver coming off a lost season due to a torn ACL, missing an extra four games certainly wouldn’t hurt in terms of recovery. However, as the team’s best receiver, all parties involved would prefer he was on the field for as many games as he is healthy.

Prior to his lost 2017 year, Edelman caught 98 passes and had a career-high 1,106 receiving yards in 2016. With the loss of players such as Danny Amendola and Brandin Cooks in the offseason, Edelman will once again be looked upon to carry the load as the teams top target. By all accounts, his recovery from injury has moved along nicely.
