As some of you may know the Baltimore Ravens became the first team to arrive at training camp when their veterans showed up yesterday along with the rookies who had been there for a little while.
With all of this in mind and the 2018 season beginning to gear up, I thought it made sense to take a look at the Ravens players who were injured in the 2017 and their recovery as well as the injuries that took place recently.
CB Jimmy Smith: Torn Left Achilles, Suffered on December 3, 2018
Last season in 2017 was when Ravens star corner Jimmy Smith tore his left Achilles in the middle of his career year. This injury crushed the Ravens as they were still pushing for the playoffs with a 7-6 record.
But know with the Ravens having an impressive offseason and looking more fit for the playoffs than last year it is time to wonder “how is Smith doing now?”
Well according to the Ravens editorial manager Ryan Mink, Smith is already participating in 11 on 11 drills. Obviously, we do not how well he is playing in these drills, but with the regular season in a little less than two months, it seems that he will be able to start Week One. Although he may have to sit out in a few preseason games due to precautions.
OL Marshall Yanda: Broken Ankle, Suffered on September 17, 2017
Marshall Yanda also broke his ankle during the Ravens up and down season in 2017. The good news about Yanda’s ankle is that it is fully recovered. But the bad news is that he is still recovering from shoulder injury presumably to help fix the issues he has been having since 2016.
Despite all of this per ESPN Ravens writer Jamison Hensley said that Head Coach John Harbaugh commented on the matter saying that if they were playing a game today he thinks he could play in it. But he also said that the team will continue to be cautious.
I think that Yanda will most likely start when Week One comes but there is a possibility that he has to sit it out.

RB Kenneth Dixon: Meniscus Injury, Placed on IR September 1, 2017
The Ravens lost their young running back before the regular season even started after undergoing surgery to repair a meniscus injury. With that injury being so long ago there is no doubt that he will be able to play during Week One. This is confirmed by Rotoworld who mentioned that Dixon avoided the PUP list and did in fact practice.
But I don’t expect Dixon to start due to Alex Collins breakout season but they could still do some good stuff when paired together.
It is also important to note that Dixon’s substance abuse suspension from last season does not carry over because the two games have already passed while injured.
DE Brent Urban: Lisfranc Foot Injury, Suffered on September 24, 2017
Ravens young defensive Brent Urban has had an injury-plagued career even before he was in the NFL. The 2017 season was no different as he suffered a foot injury against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Recent Injuries per John Harbaughs Interview: TE Vince Mayle: High Ankle Sprain, should return soon. TE Mark Andrews: Held out due to a muscle tissue issue. Greg Senat: A disclosed injury that could last three weeks to the end of training camp.
