With rookies set to report to training camp on Sunday, the New England Patriots have ensured that running back Sony Michel will be joining them in Foxboro.
Per Ian Rapoport of NFL Media, the first-rounder has agreed to a rookie contract with the team. Michel, who was the 31st overall pick in April, will sign the standard rookie deal for first-round picks that runs four years with a team option for a fifth season.
In his senior season at Georgia, Michel ran for 1,227 yards and 16 touchdowns while splitting time with Cleveland Browns rookie Nick Chubb. The Patriots backfield will be the focus on man an eye in the coming weeks. James White, Rex Burkhead, Jeremy Hill and Mike Gillislee will be vying for a position within the Pats running back corps.
Michel joins college teammate and fellow first-round pick Isaiah Wynn and the rest of the Patriots draft class with contracts.
At present, 11 players remain unsigned from the 2018 draft class throughout the league.
