Believe it or not, Patriots training camp is upon us with veterans set report on Wednesday. However, several Patriots will not be among the group when the first practice takes place. According to reports Cyrus Jones, Kenny Britt, Nate Ebner, and Jonathan Jones will open the year on the PUP list. None of these players can participate in practice until they are removed.

Injuries, of course, seem to be the culprit. Cyrus Jones tore his ACL last year and missed the entire 2017 season. In addition, Britt has been dealing with hamstring issues throughout the offseason program.

Britt’s situation is worth keeping an eye on, especially given the recent reports that the team is shopping third-year receiver, Malcolm Mitchell. Mitchell, of course, missed the entire 2017 season after a promising rookie season. Britt came aboard midway through the 2017 season and was brought back this offseason.

Drafted by the Titans in 2009, Britt has his best year just two seasons ago in his final year with the Rams. That season, Britt set career highs in targets (111), receptions (68), and yards (1,002). His five touchdowns were the second highest of his career behind his nine touchdown season with the Titans in 2010.

The absence of the two Jones, Cyrus, and Jonathan, should give rookie Duke Dawson the first crack at winning the slot corner job. Stephon Gilmore is the clear top corner on this team with Eric Rowe being the favorite to follow him on the depth chart. That leaves the slot-corner spot up for grabs and two of the candidates will not be at practice for the start of camp.
