The Jaguars should pursue free agent wide receiver Dez Bryant. The former Dallas Cowboys receiver still remains a free agent after being let go back in April. Bryant is a former three-time Pro Bowler, and a former First Team All-Pro selection. He also has had three 1,000 plus yard seasons. Here are a few reasons why the Jaguars should consider signing Dez Bryant to a contract.
Bryant Is Still Productive
He is entering his eighth year in the league and his yards have diminished. But, not by much. In 2016, he snagged 8 touchdowns and had 796 yards receiving, and just last season in 2017, he reeled in six touchdowns with 800 plus yards. The Jaguars have a ton of young and talented wide outs but lack a true experienced number one guy and bringing in Bryant would do a lot of good for the young receivers that the Jaguars have.
Bryant Will Help Blake Bortles
Blake Bortles’ best two seasons, yards and touchdown wise, came back in 2015 and 2016 where he threw for 4,428 yards and 3,905 yards, respectively. A lot of those yards were due to having a true number one receiver in Allen Robinson. Bortles’ play steps up when he has a true down the field 50/50 ball receiver and Bryant brings that to the table. He’s consistently been one of the best deep threats in football during his time in Dallas. The Jaguars are a run-first team. However, when they go into play action and take a shot down the field, Bryant can be a reliable guy.
Bryant Can Serve As A “Decoy” In This Offense
Another thing Bryant will bring to the table is the ability to play the decoy role for guys like Keelan Cole, Donte Moncrief and Dede Westbrook. Defenses will put a lot of focus on shutting down Bryant, which will give other receivers the chance to shine against lesser defensive backs. Dez Bryant will help the Jaguars push towards a Super Bowl and will force defenses to game plan for him, as well as the Jaguars running attack.
