After working out free agent running backs Jamaal Charles and Orleans Darkwa over the weekend, the Washington Redskins worked out another free agent running back, Adrian Peterson.
Washington let both Charles and Darkwa leave without a contract, they didn’t let Peterson leave without one.
One Year for Peterson
The contract is just for one year, money was not released at this time. Once that gets released, if it does, Full Press Coverage will update it as needed.
Obviously, Peterson isn’t just a camp body. He’s going to go straight into Redskins camp to become the Week 1 starter. And if you’re somehow living under a rock, Washington will travel to Arizona in Week 1.
Peterson split time in 2017 with New Orleans and Arizona where he rushed for 529 yards on 159 rushes, which averages about 3.4 yards per game. Those aren’t great numbers, but he wasn’t going to start in New Orleans with the talent there and he was playing in Arizona behind a terrible O-Line.
Truth be told, the Redskins O-Line can easily be a Top 10 line if everyone is healthy. What does that mean for Peterson? That he could possibly have open holes, show his cuts and show that he’s not washed up.

This is a low reward, low-risk signing for Washington as they have been dealing with numerous running back injuries so far. First, they lost rookie Derrius Guice for the year with an ACL tear, who got surgery today. Then they lost Samaje Perine, which per reports was only for a couple weeks and then Byron Marshall goes down.
Washington also doesn’t know when they will get Chris Thompson back and according to reports he won’t be 100% until November, that’s when he got hurt last year.
TMZ reported back in March that Peterson would like to start for a team, but he’s down for being a mentor as well. We will see if that changes when he officially dresses out in the Burgundy and Gold.
“I’m not a selfish player at all. I’m all about accomplishing that ultimate task of winning a championship,” Peterson told TMZ back in March via video chat.

We don’t know when Peterson will make his Redskins debut but don’t be surprised if it comes in the last preseason game against the Baltimore Ravens.
