The Tampa Bay Buccaneers started their preseason week three game late due to a weather delay. While the lightning cleared, the offense still had quite a spark.
The Buccaneers scored on their first possession thanks to Peyton Barber. Barber carried the rock five times for 34 yards and scored a touchdown on the first drive. The Buccaneers offense has been electrifying this preseason and that continued tonight. The Lions followed up with marching down to the red zone due to a blown coverage by Chris Conte. The Bucs defense employed the “Bend, but don’t break” mentality and stopped the Lions forcing them to kick a field goal. Ronald Jones had a nice 37 yard catch on a wheel route. What do you know the kid can catch.
The Buccaneers offense would not be stopped, except for when they were beating themselves with some head scratching penalties. O.J. Howard had a nice catch and bounced off a few defenders then got called for an offensive pass interference. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers went for it on 4th and one (Loved that call by Dirk Koetter). Jameis Winston scrambles and coverts. He connects with Chris Godwin on a beautiful back shoulder fade. While that catch by Godwin was beautiful, it was not the highlight of the night. The Lions line up for a long field goal right before halftime and Adam Humphries makes them pay. Humphries took it 109 yards to the house. The Buccaneers led 20-6 going into halftime.
The Buccaneers again score on the opening drive, this time its Ryan Griffin to Freddy Martino. The Buccaneers defense was sloppy letting Matt Cassel and company shred them to pieces. Penalties killed the Buccaneers especially on a field goal that was missed by Prater, but, because of an illegal formation penalty, gave the Lions another chance. The Lions did capitalize on the opportunity and score a touchdown.
The defense still continued to play sloppy and gave up big plays. The Buccaneers had a 10 point lead before the Lions marched down the field and scored. The Lions went for two and failed on the attempt. The Buccaneers offense didn’t do much in the 4th quarter. The Buccaneers who once had a 27-6 lead saw it disappear late in the 4th quarter.
The Buccaneers are now 2-1 in the preseason.
