In a game more meant for the roster than win column, the Raiders thumped the Seattle Seahawks 30-19 . This caps Oakland’s eventful preseason. For those who actually care, the Raiders finished 3-1 during the summer. Also, for those who care, stop betting on preseason games.
Fadol Brown
Under Jack Del Rio, Brown languished with few snaps. However, this preseason shows Brown in a whole new light. Whether you credit Mike Trgovac or Paul Guenther, either way, Brown may have a spot locked up. What helps Brown is his strength. Tipping the scales at 282 allows Brown to push the pocket and gain a hand free quickly. While most ends will attempt speed more often than not, Brown uses good lower body strength to drive tackles backward.
Manuel
After an excellent first half, EJ Manuel played into the second half. Going 18/22 for 255 yards and three scores will help his case. Granted, most of the Seahawks players that he saw will not be on the team. Yet, Manuel acquitted himself well. His arm and more importantly, the touch looked there. With that said, can Manuel do enough to build confidence as a backup? If you look at the other preseason games, the answer could be a painful one.

Last Ditch
With Griff Whalen and Ryan Switzer off the roster, Keon Hatcher looked to make noise last night. In all honesty, every wideout looked for targets. For Hatcher, this game gave him the opportunity to accomplish needed goals. First, quality snaps, regardless of game situation will always help. Next, snaring two scores gives the organization something to think about.
If Hatcher coasts through waivers, he would find a spot on the practice squad. Under those circumstances, that could benefit Oakland. Meanwhile, receiver-starved teams are desperately searching for talent. If Hatcher played his final game in an Oakland jersey, he went out very strong. After an eight-catch, 128 yard performance, Hatcher made decisions tougher.
Finally
In reality, this preseason felt like an eternity. With the Mack drama and Gruden’s return, we have all aged like bananas or milk. Meanwhile, a new season finally approaches. How the Oakland Raiders will fare remains a mystery. On the other hand, the best novels keep you guessing until the very end.
