Well, his plan has continued to move forward. Cutting players who have been tenured with the Browns like Jamie Meder is a tough job. Dorsey truly believes he’s changing this roster and team for the best.
DT Jamie Meder, C Austin Reiter, LB Jermaine Grace, CB Jeremiah McKinnon, and DE Carl Nassib were all cut today to coincide with the additions the Browns made. The biggest loss for most Browns fans will likely be Meder. The Parma native and former Ashland Eagles defensive lineman has been with the Browns since 2014. Nassib, the Hard Knocks star Carl who’s financial advise and fun attitude won’t be forgotten anytime soon.
The Browns claimed the following five players off of waivers.
DL Carl Davis from the Baltimore Ravens. Davis is a 6’5″, 320 defensive linemen out of Iowa. Originally selected by the Ravens in the third round 90th overall. He’s collected 30 tackles, three pass breakups, and a half-sack. Last season.
DL Ifeadi Odenigbo from the Minnesota Vikings and a huge sleeper in my opinion. Odenigbo is a 6’3′, 275-pound defensive lineman from Northwestern. He is a 2017 seventh-round draft pick by the Vikings. Collegiately, Odenigbo earned first-team All-Big Ten honors from conference coaches and second-team accolades from league media as a senior.
OL Aaron Neary from the Los Angeles Rams. Neary 6’3″, 201 pounds offensive lineman of Eastern Washington, was originally signed by the Denver Broncos in 2016 as an undrafted free agent. He spent the season as a member of the Philadelphia Eagles’ practice squad after the Broncos waived him during final roster cuts. He was acquired by the Rams via waivers before the start of 2017.
DB Tavierre Thomas from the Arizona Cardinals. Thomas a 5’10”, 205-pound rookie defensive back. Thomas was signed by the Cardinals as an undrafted free agent this spring.
LB Tanner Vallejo from the Buffalo Bills. Vallejo, 6’1″, 230 pounds linebacker was originally drafted by the Bills in the sixth round 195th overall of the 2017 NFL Draft out of Boise State. Vallejo played in 15 of 16 games for the Bills as a rookie linebacker last season.
While most of these guys are somewhat intriguing for this current Browns roster. The two I’m most interested in are Vallejo who could add some more serious depth to the already loaded LB core of the Browns. Odenigbo though is the best pickup here by Dorsey. Minnesota is already loaded at the defensive line position and had to cut a guy who many in Minnesota thought was going to be a star. Odenigbo could be a name you’re hearing a lot this season causing all kinds of issues with Myles Garrett and Emmanuel Ogbah.
With Sunday’s moves, there are 31 players who were not on this roster last season.
