New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees has praise for a signal caller who will be on the opposite sideline this Sunday at the Superdome. However we are not talking about the Cleveland Browns starting quarterback Tyrod Taylor.
During a conference call with Cleveland media Wednesday afternoon, Brees shared his thoughts on number one overall pick Baker Mayfield. The praise starts with what he did in college.
#Saints Drew Brees says he's never spoken to Baker Mayfield, but he loves his game, his competitiveness. They're from the same area. Admires him and has followed his college career.

“I could not have been more impressed with what he was able to accomplish in college, especially last year,” Brees said. “Really impressed with the way he plays the game. I think he is a great competitor. Never met him so I can’t say that I know him at all, but that just my observations from afar is that I think he is going to be a really good professional quarterback. I love his competitiveness and his playmaking ability.”
Mayfield has been compared to Brees because of their height. Brees has not let that bother him. The veteran expects the rookie to do the same thing once his time to play arrives.
“I will say it like this, first of all, I do not know any other way,” Brees said. “I do not know what it is like to be 6-5 because I will never be 6-5. I’ll say it like this, if one of you closed your eyes, all of your other senses would be heightened, right? Your sense of smell. Your sense of hearing. All of that other stuff. Maybe because I am 6-0, that maybe there are certain things that I can’t see as well, but for that reason, maybe I can hear it and see it better because that is what I have had to do for my whole career. You find a way. You just get it done.”
Brees also has some good advice that Mayfield should listen too.
Saints’ QB Drew Brees said today that Browns’ QB Baker Mayfield “can be a lot better than me.”https://t.co/cIOHcnDveD

“I think that he can be a lot better than me (laughter),” Brees said. (Baker) is more athletic. He has a stronger arm. He has all of the tools. I will give Baker Mayfield advice if he asks for it. Other than that, I am just focusing on my job.”
