Special Teams
I’ll start with the missed extra point for Chandler Catanzaro so it’s out of the way. There. Let’s move on.
On two occasions, punt returner Adam Humphries was literally one missed tripped tackle away from having an explosive play on special teams.
A very bright spot on the Bucs’ coverage team has been Ryan Smith. He’s replaced special teams captain Russell Shepard and most recently, Josh Robinson. Smith’s speed was killer on Sunday and it allowed him to make several key special teams plays that help prevent an explosive play or even a return past the 20 for Philly.
The coverage team on punts was not where it needed to be on one punt on Sunday due to the fact that Eagles punt returner, Cory Clement, returned a kick to the Bucs’ 40 yard line. Punter Bryan Anger eventually pushed him out-of-bounds, preventing would be touchdown.
In closing, the now 2-0 Tampa Bay Buccaneers have two game they can pridefully hang their hats on. Now is the time for the Bucs to push on the accelerator harder and really punish their opponents to prove to the rest of the NFL that the Buccaneers are back in business!!!!!
