The Kansas City Chiefs are currently one of the hottest teams in the NFL with a 7-1 record while the Browns have been impressive this season compared to lately with a 2-5-1 record. The last time the two teams met was on December 27, 2015. The Cleveland Browns lost 17-13. The Chiefs currently lead the series 12-11-2 against the Browns.

Both teams have new quarterbacks this season with Patrick Mahomes and Baker Mayfield. However, these two quarterbacks may not be familiar with each other in the NFL they have experience facing off in college.

Mayfield was a member of the Oklahoma Sooners while Mahomes was a part of Texas Tech. Mahomes threw for 734 yards and five touchdowns. Mayfield threw for 545 yards and seven touchdowns as the Sooners went on to win 66-59.

Mayfield continued his dominance not only winning the Heisman Award in 2017 but was also the No. 1 overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft by the Browns. Kansas City Chiefs head coach, Andy Reid, has high for The Browns rookie quarterback saying, “he loves to play the game. He has good vision and accuracy. He is a good football player. I think you guys would agree, he loves to play the game. He has done it at every level he has been.”

Mahomes was taken a year earlier in the 2017 NFL Draft as the 10th pick in the first round by the Chiefs.

Mahomes is arguably the hottest young quarterback in the league with 2,526 yards and 26 touchdowns this season. Alongside Mahomes on offense is a dynamic running back in Kareem Hunt and wide receiver Tyreek Hill. Hunt has been a factor in both the passing and running game this season with 592 rushing yards and 262 receiving yards with 10 total touchdowns. Hill currently has 705 receiving yards and seven touchdowns this season.

Former defensive coordinator and interim head coach Gregg Williams was asked about his approach to slowing down Kansas City offensively.

“It is tough. They have had a really good year. One of the things I have always tried to do is take a look at the division teams. Our job as coaches is to look at every side of the film and build great videotape for our players to look at, too. I have kind of walked around and tried to see it from the other sides of the ball and the other areas. I’m always in contact with how that stuff is being done on defense. I just wanted to see it on the offense. It has been good.”

Mayfield has been sacked at least five times in three of that last four games. With the lack of protection from the Brown’s offensive line, Mayfield has thrown six interceptions.

Offensive tackle Desmond Harrison of the Browns is questionable for Sunday’s game because of an illness. Williams talked about who can take Harrison’s role if he is unable to play. He explained that “those are the things that were in the discussions. How we practiced today, we rotated quite a few guys is what we did. Tried to make sure next man up. We really do it every day. It is not just today. We do that every day.”

If Harrison is out against Kansas City the Browns could look to either Austin Corbett or Greg Robinson to fill the hole on offense.

Although the Browns are struggling offensively, their defense has been quite impressive with a league-high of 22 takeaways. One of the focal points of the defense is defensive end, Myles Garrett. Who not only has eight sacks but is a dangerous pass rusher because of his speed off the ball.
