The Cleveland Browns need as many bodies as possible this Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons, especially in the secondary. Will the number four overall pick be healthy enough to take on Julio Jones?

The chances Denzel Ward will play have increased. The rookie cornerback returned to practice Thursday. Ward exited Sunday’s loss against the Kansas City Chiefs due to a hip flexor.

“I am getting better. I had monitored reps today,” Ward said. “It felt good to be back out there. I am getting better, though. I should be good.”

Ward has dealt with hip flexors before. In fact it’s not the first time he has battled this type of injury since being drafted by the Browns.

“It is just like what I had around rookie minicamp when I first got here,” Ward said. “I kind of had the same issue a little bit. I have not been fighting it since rookie camp. It kind of went away but then reoccurred throughout the week leading up to the game.”

As a precaution, the Browns added a pair of defensive backs, Jermaine Whitehead and Phillip Gaines in case Ward can not play Sunday. Ward needs to be as close to 100 percent as possible due to the challenge he faces against the Falcons receivers.

“They are a very talented group, starting with No. 11 Julio Jones obviously, (Falcons WRs) Calvin Ridley and (Mohammad) Sanu. They have a lot of talented players that can make plays,” Ward said. “We just have to try to take those guys out of the game to the best of our ability.”

Ward has started all nine games so far. He has 40 tackles and three interceptions.
