The Tampa Bay Buccaneers signed Free Agent Kicker Cario Santos Monday evening after releasing Chandler Catanzro earlier on Monday.
After a dismal performance Sunday against the Washington Redskins, Chandler Catanzaro all but wrote his ending to his days as a Tampa Bay Buccaneer. Catanzaro ranked 31st in the league, making 11 of 15 field goals this season. The Bucs have had nine different kickers come through Tampa since 2009.
Cario Santos was last seen with the Los Angles Rams before being cut to make way for Rams injured kicker Greg Zuerlin to become the teams kicker again.
Santos heads to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with a kicking accuracy of 84% on field goals, and a career point after attempt of 132 out of 138.
The Buccaneers have had very little success with their kickers since they released current Atlanta Falcons kicker Matt Byrant. The Bucs are in desperate need of a reliable kicker heading down these last seven games.
During Santos’ two games with the Rams, he went five for six on field goals, and five of six for point after attempts. Santos’ has great percentages from 20 to 49 yards out, and has made seven field goals of 50 yards or more.
