The Buccaneers won the turnover battle for the second consecutive week and it led to their second consecutive win. Chris Godwin crossed the century mark in receiving yards in the game and Andrew Adams led the defense with three of the four interceptions at Raymond James Stadium on Sunday against the Carolina Panthers.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Jameis Winston, led a touchdown drive to begin the game. The drive was capped off by an Adam Humphries touchdown reception to give Tampa Bay a 0-7 lead. On the ensuing Carolina possession, Andrew Adams intercepted Cam Newton. The interception led to a Cairo Santos field goal to extend the lead to 0-10. The Panthers responded with a Christian McCaffrey 8-yard touchdown reception. The first quarter score finished 7-10.
Peyton Barber fumbled on an attempt to reach across the goal line, which Luke Keuchly recovered. With the Panthers driving toward the end of the quarter, Javien Elliott intercepted Cam Newton and returned it into Carolina territory. The Buccaneers were able to capitalize with a touchdown pass from Winston to Chris Godwin. Tampa Bay entered halftime with a 7-17 lead.
Jameis Winston finished the half with 160 yards and two touchdowns. Chris Godwin led the team in receiving with 71 yards and a touchdown on his three receptions.
Cam Newton totaled 54 yards on his 10 passing attempts with a touchdown and two interceptions. Christian McCaffrey rushed for 76 yards and caught a touchdown pass.
Carolina marched down the field after receiving the kickoff, but stalled in the redzone as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers defense stood firm. The Panthers kicked a field goal to bring the score to 10-17. Tampa Bay responded with a drive of their own. A long pass interference penalty set up the Buccaneers with first down from the one yard line. Peyton Barber scored on the next play. The Panthers responded again, later in the quarter, as Devin Funchess caught his first pass of the day. The reception went for a 10-yard touchdown, and Carolina came back to within a touchdown.
Andrew Adams intercepted Cam Newton two more times in the fourth quarter, which totaled four interceptions for the Tampa Bay defense. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers held the Panthers scoreless the entire fourth quarter. The inability to run the ball effectively forced the Buccaneers to punt the ball to the Panthers with a little over a minute remaining but the defense closed the game.
Jameis Winston totaled 249 passing yards and two touchdowns. Chris Godwin finished the game with 101 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Cam Newton had 300 passing yards with two touchdowns and four interceptions. Christian McCaffrey 161 total yards and a touchdown.
