Jarvis Landry recorded two touchdowns, one receiving and one rushing as the Cleveland Browns defeated the Carolina Panthers, 26-20.
The Browns victory marked not only the Panthers fifth straight loss but it also heavily damaged the programs chances of making the playoffs.
Baker Mayfield put the Browns on the board early. Mayfield threw a pass 66-yards to Breshad Perriman which helped set up Landry’s three yard rushing touchdown.
The Browns (5-7-1) were very impressive in spoiling against Carolina, but improved to 3-2 under interim coach Gregg Williams.
The hot seat just got hotter for Panthers head coach Ron Rivera. Rivera took on play calling duties and the Browns took full advantage.
However, the Browns defense was quite impressive in the fourth quarter. It was not a surprise that Panthers quarterback Cam Newton has been dealing with a sore right shoulder. Thus, explaining the interception late in the fourth quarter by Damarious Randall. Newton overthrew Devin Funchess pretty badly and Randall was able to capitalize.
Mayfield finished 18-of-22 for 238 yards which was much needed after throwing three interceptions in the first half last weekend against Houston.
Rookie Nick Chubb continued his dominance on the ground recently. Chubb recorded a 1-yard rushing touchdown early in the fourth quarter that put the Browns up 23-20. However, kicker Greg Joseph hit the left upright during the extra point attempt which kept the Panthers within three.
Panthers running back Christian McCaffrey finished with two rushing touchdowns and 101 total yards.
However, the Panthers late game woes on both sides of the ball were too much to overcome against a highly talented Browns roster.
