The Falcons and Panthers face off in a late season divisional rivalry game. Both teams have dealt with losing streaks this season. Falcons are coming off a win to break their 5 game losing streak last week. The panthers come into the game looking to end their 6 game losing streak. The game was seemingly equal through out the first half and both teams traded scores finishing 10-10 at halftime. Both offenses first drives ended with a touchdown. Julio Jones played a big part of the first drive with his four catches including his 1-yard touchdown reception. Jones did not get on the field for the rest of the game.
The offense was awarded with four turnovers and were not able to get any points off any of them.
Calvin Ridley got loose for a 75-yard touchdown catch and run on the first play of the second half. This gave Ridley his longest touchdown run and his eighth touchdown on the season.
Ryan connects with Mohamed Sanu for an 44-yard touchdown giving the Falcons their last score. Sanu gets his third touchdown on the season and his first one since Week 6.
Brian Hill was given an opportunity to get on the field after Tevin Coleman left the game with an injury. Hill ended the game leading the team in rushing with 115 yards for 8 carries. He fumbled the ball, giving the Panthers their second turnover of the game.
These last games can only give fans hope for next year and the defense have been taking steps in the right directions. They have had good preformances in the last two games though it was against two struggling teams. In this game, the backup quarterback, Taylor Heinicke started in lieu of the injured Cam Newton.
They were able to get four takeaways from the Carolina Panthers offense. Deion Jones punches the ball out to force a fumble and Brian Poole recovered. Damontae Kazee deflected a pass by Heinicke and Jack Crawford was able to catch an interception. The interception came at the end of the second quarter in the with the Panthers in the red zone. Brain Poole caught his third interception of the season towards the end of the 3rd quarter. Isaiah Oliver gets his first interception of his career
The most talked about tackle of the game came from a vey unexpected player, the punter. Matt Bosher tackled and drove the returner to the ground during the punt return.
The defense held the Panthers offense to no points throughout the entire second half.
The Falcons are on their way to ending their first losing season since 2014 with a winning streak. They improve to 6-9 and with the win over Carolina, Falcons are now second in the NFC South. The Falcons will visit the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in their last game of the 2018 season.
