Assessment
Strength/Intensity: Should be stronger than he is. Doesn’t really seem to know how to use his size against. Lacks the intensity that the top level prospects do. A couple little pointers should help his game tremendously. Plays like he isn’t confident. 18/22.
Hand Technique/Finesse: Seems to struggle with how to use his hand technique and translate his strength to finesse. Again, needs a couple pointers to really take his game to the next level. 15/20.
- Ep. 197: Fields to Pittsburgh, Still Available Free Agentsby Full Press Coverage on March 18, 2024 at 8:00 pm
Burst/Quickness: Good first step, and attacks with good speed and quickness. Closes in on the play quickly when given the opportunity. 16/18.
Run Defense/Tackling: Very good run defender. Diagnoses the play quickly, moves the blocker to where he can be in position to make the play to tackle the runner. Shakes off the block with relative ease. 17/18.
FBI/Versatility: Good smarts, plays with good instinct and diagnoses plays with ease. Excellent FBI. Will probably fit best in a 3-4 system as a DE. Not a player capable of playing upright. Versatility is somewhat limited. 10/12.
Leadership/Attitude: Plays with a good attitude, a lot of passion. Good leader from what I can tell. He’s a likable guy on the field. 9/10.
Overall: Zach Allen reminds me a lot of JJ Watt when he was coming out of Wisconsin. He has the physical tools he needs to be great in the NFL, he just needs some good coaching in the league to bring the monster out of him. Allen has a lot of upside and could potentially be the best edge player in this draft. 85/100.
Personality Assessment:
Smart guy, handles himself with the media well and has no red flags off of the field. I like him. (+3).
