Friday it was announced that the Stars had sent down forward Denis Gurianov to the Texas Stars of the AHL. After that move was announced the question for Stars fans arose. Does this mean we made a trade? The answers is no, the Stars have not made a trade, yet.
They did, however, call up the AHL leading goal scorer Joel L’Esperance. He leads the American Hockey League with 27 goals in 49 games. He is also second among rookies with 42 total points.
The Stars signed L’Esperance after he graduated from Michigan Tech at the end of last season. He was able to get a tryout with the Texas Stars. In that nine-game tryout, he scored one goal and one assist. After the season he signed a two-year entry-level contract with the Dallas Stars.
In his four years at Michigan Tech, he played over 150 games and scored 46 goals. The L’Esperance call up was well earned and Stars fans are excited to see what he could bring to the table. He will get his first NHL start Saturday night when the Stars take on the Carolina Hurricanes. L’Esperance will center a line with Roope Hintz to his left and Valeri Nichushkin to his right.
L’Esperance will have a close eye on him Saturday night by Stars fans everywhere. Hopefully, he can come in and help provide some scoring because that is all he would do in the AHL and Stars fans are hoping it translates to the NHL.
