FOX Sports’ Colin Cowherd reported last week the New York Giants are on the wish list of a certain NFL quarterback: Russell Wilson.

Cowherd said Wilson is ready to depart the Seattle Seahawks. He also said Wilson’s wife, singer Ciara, is pushing him to leave the Pacific Northwest for the Big Apple. She reportedly doesn’t like living in Seattle and being in New York City would be better for her music career.

“Russell Wilson’s wife is Ciara. She’s a singer and an entertainer,” Cowherd said last week on the nationally syndicated “The Herd With Colin Cowherd” show. “She would prefer to live in New York, and the Giants need a quarterback, and there’s nobody in the Draft they love.

“A lot of things add up. Last year of Russell Wilson’s contract. His wife would prefer New York. Seattle is not an entertainment mecca…also, Russell Wilson, good-looking guy, classy guy, incredibly marketable, and kinda buried in the Pacific Northwest.”

The Giants are rumored to be looking for a quarterback. Wilson, a Super Bowl champion with five Pro Bowl appearances on his resume, would fit the bill, right?

Seahawks general manager John Schneider took the pruning shears to Cowherd’s report at the NFL Combine in Indianapolis.

“I don’t have any other reason to believe that other than, like, website rumors and stuff like that,” Schneider said. “We’ve been in communication with his agent, Mark (Rodgers). I’m sure we’ll continue to talk. There are some guys that are unrestricted free agents right now, so we try to work through that process.”

Wilson signed a four-year, $87.6 million extension in 2016. In 2019, he will make $17 million in base salary. He carries a cap hit of $25,286,668 and dead cap value of $8,286,668. Barring an extension, Wilson will become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the 2019 season.

It is not of the realm of possibility that Wilson’s wife wants out of the Pacific Northwest. However, there is nothing in Wilson’s personality to suggest he would force a trade out of Seattle. There are other ways for this couple to get to New York City. It is also too early in the draft process to determine whether or not the Giants like someone.
