Tyreek Hill Under Investigation

Chiefs WR Tyreek Hill

News broke on Friday that an investigation had begun at the home of Chiefs wide receiver Tyreek Hill. Kansas City has acknowledged the investigation involving Hill: “The club is aware of the investigation involving Tyreek Hill. We’re in the process of gathering information and have been in contact with the league and local authorities. We’ll have no further comment at this time.”

According to KCTV5, there have been two separate incidents where police have been called to this address. Police were called to the address on March 5 to investigate a report of child abuse and neglect. Hill’s name is listed on the report from that day. His fiance, Crystal Espinal is listed as “others involved.” Overland Park Police say that the report was closed three days later. Prosecution was declined.

In the second report from March 14, Hill’s name is not listed on the report. But, his address is again the listed location and his fiance’s name appears on this second report. According to KCTV5, “Overland Park Police have turned the investigation over to the Johnson County District Attorney’s office for review.”

In 2015, Hill had pleaded guilty to a domestic assault and battery against his then-girlfriend. She was pregnant and he choked her and punched her in both her stomach and face. This occurred when he was a student at Oklahoma State in December 2014. For three years, a judge had deferred Hill’s sentence. He got a fresh start as the judge dismissed the charges. This led to the Chiefs only taking a chance on him during the 5th round in 2016. This, in spite of the fact that his talent suggested that he could have gone much higher.

Nothing is true or false at this point in time. It is different from the Kareem Hunt incident as there was video footage in that case. With Hill’s incident, there were some conflicting reports early. All we know is an investigation is underway at the address of Hill’s residence. Now we hope that everyone involved is safe, especially the juvenile.
