With the NFL draft a little more than a month away, talk about who the Tampa Bay Buccaneers will pick with the fifth overall pick is heating up. I will breakdown what I think will happen and how it will affect what the Tampa Bay Buccaneers does with their pick.
Kyler Murray has been the focal point of almost every topic of discussion when it comes to this year’s draft. The Arizona Cardinals have the first overall pick and could make Murray the first QB taken in this year’s draft. New head coach Kliff Kingsbury likes to run an air raid offense, Murray is the perfect fit. He has the speed and arm strength that could make the Cardinals offense tough to deal with. Questions have come up about whether the Cardinals should take Murray 1st overall because in the 2018 draft they selected Josh Rosen with the 10th pick. Murray is a better fit for the offense and will make players around him better.
Here is where things start to get tricky. Dwayne Haskins name comes up as the second QB to come off the board. Haskins is, in my opinion, the best pocket passer in this year’s draft. He has shown that he can make all the throws and makes great decisions with the ball. The New York Giants are the team that I think Haskins fits in best with. The Broncos at #10 and Dolphins at #13 may be willing to trade up to grab Haskins before the Giants pick at #6.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Do the Bucs stay at #5 and pick one of the many outstanding defensive players or do they listen to one of the teams willing to trade up to pick Haskins? Last year’s team struggled in the defensive secondary and with the pass rush. This year’s draft class is loaded with playmakers on both positions. In most mock drafts I have seen if the Bucs decide to trade back, players like Ed Oliver, Devin Bush and Greedy Williams will all be available. This would give the Bucs an instant playmaker with any pick they make. If they decide to make the pick at #5 Devin White has been a name that has been coming up a lot. The lost of Kwon Alexander created a hole in the linebacking corps that need to be filled. White would be a great piece to fill that void
Once the draft starts the Buccaneers will have a lot of options on the table. No one will know what will happen between now and April 25th, but one thing is for sure. The Buccaneers decision will come down to how valued the QB’s of this year’s draft are and what teams are willing to move up in the draft to take one of them. Stay tuned! This is going to be a wild month leading up to the draft.
