Golden Greek Stays in Burgundy and Gold
There was a contract extension signed yesterday, just not the one that Redskins fans were expecting.
Matt Ioannidis signed a 3-year contract extension yesterday with a base value of $21.75 million with another $3 million in incentives, and $14 million guaranteed. This was first reported by NFL Networks Mike Garafolo.
The #Redskins are signing DE Matt Ioannidis to a three-year extension with a base value of $21.75 million with another $3 million in incentives, source says. Former fifth-rounder from Temple is underappreciated by many (7.5 sacks last year), though clearly not by the Skins.

This extension comes at a time when the Redskins are starting a youth movement on the defensive side of the ball. As a part of the “DC Gridlock, ” Ioannidis tallied a career high in tackles (31) and sacks (7.5) in 2018. He will look to repeat and build on his success in 2019 with his defensive linemates returning.
Ioannidis was a fifth round pick in the 2016 draft out of Temple University.
