PATRIOTS DEFENSIVE BACK KEN WEBSTER
CONFERENCE CALL
April 27, 2019
Q: What are your initial thoughts on joining the Patriots?
KW: It’s a blessing. I’m just thankful that I get the opportunity to play professional football right now. I’ve had my ups and my downs but I’m thankful for the opportunity to be a New England Patriot.
Q: How difficult was it for you to go through all those injuries and what did you learn from it?
KW: My injuries taught me to be thankful for everyday life and just the little blessings that I’m given and notice the little things that I’m given. It’s also taught me to count your blessings. This is not for everybody so just give thanks for everything I get.
Q: How are you feeling now?
KW: I’m very thankful. I’m thankful for the opportunity and I’m looking forward to getting into New England and getting to work.
Q: Did you have any pre-draft contact with the Patriots?
KW: No sir.
Q: The Patriots have a long history of undrafted players and late-round picks making an impact on the team. How do you feel coming into this program knowing that late-round players get as good a shot as higher picks?
KW: I’m really just thankful that I get an opportunity to come into a program, just getting ready to learn from the older veterans and get ready to compete for a spot in whatever way I can help the team.
Q: You got to play against another Patriots’ draft pick Jarrett Stidham in the SEC. What do you remember from going up against him?
KW: It was a pretty good game. He’s a really good quarterback and I’m thankful to have him on my team right now.
Q: What did you learn from going up against your teammates like D.K. Metcalf and A.J. Brown at Ole Miss during practice?
KW: Those guys made me better every day. I’m thankful to have them on my team and call them the best receivers in the draft. But I’m also thankful that they were on my team, so I’m just taking it as a blessing.
Q: What are your strengths as a cornerback?
KW: I learn fast, I’m willing to do whatever it takes to get on the field and help my team out regardless. I’m also physical at the line, physical in the run. I can play corner, safety, nickelback, whatever is needed.
Q: Did you play on special teams at all?
KW: My freshman and sophomore year I played a lot of special teams. I got hurt in 2016 but also, my team was down with a couple of injuries in 2017 and 2018 so I was kind of limited on special team reps.
