Moving towards the evolution of the roster, the Oakland Raiders look towards their division to see how the AFC West shakes out. Armed with their own rookies, the Chiefs, Broncos, and Chargers will serve to be, as always, a threat. Moreover, which Raiders draft pick will end up losing their job to a draft pick? FPC Raiders writers Ray Aspuria and Terrance Biggs discuss.
Whom did the Raiders pass on that could haunt them in the division?
Nasir Adderley. The Delaware safety isn’t a battletank like Jonathan Abram, however, he’s a great cover safety who can track and snag the ball. To make matters worse, Nas ends up tag-teaming with Derwin James (still a sore subject to many in Raider Nation) as Los Angeles Chargers. Adderley is going to be a pain as he disrupts the passing game. However, there is hope, the Raiders have the running backs to run over the slight of build defender.
Juan Thornhill. Like Adderley, Thornhill presents an upgrade. However, unlike the Chargers, the Chiefs only need to play average defense. With that said, Thornhill’s versatility gives Kansas City a needed boost. Playing on a team with a high-flying offense, Thornhill will play with the lead. As a result, look for the Raiders to test him early.

What player is most in danger of losing their starting spot to a draftee and why?
Arden Key. Just look at the most recent voluntary camp photos and tell me, with a straight face, Key isn’t above 220 pounds. Thought to have built muscle mass onto his frame in the offseason, Key looks thin — but in shape. However, that slenderness isn’t going to help his cause. Any mass he puts on now will simply burn off in training camp. While Clelin Ferrell appears poised to be the strong side end, Maxx Crosby — if he improves his core strength — could upend Key at the other DE spot. He’s arguably more athletic and has more mass on his frame.
Arden Key possesses quick twitch. Not to mention, he does have a year head start over his competition. Yet, with incomplete rush moves and frustrating results, Maxx Crosby could slice into his time. First, Crosby is faster. Next, he possesses more acumen that is technical. That is to say , Crosby can string together more than one move.
The Oakland Raiders will have a difficult time making roster cuts. That is the dream of good teams.
