In the proverbial quiet zone, the Oakland Raiders still find a way to bring the most interesting quotes. With a pivotal 2019 season ahead, the team must find ways to win games and hopefully play as a cohesive unit.
“I daydream about it every day,” Every day, man. I can’t wait. It’s not going to take me long to see my old teammates, see my old organization, you know, I can’t wait. I think it’s going to be a helluva game. I went back to Denver not too long ago and I told some of those guys that we were going to beat them.”,
Like most players with a new team, Brandon Marshall wants to lead his team to victory. However, for Marshall, a lifelong Raiders fan, playing the Broncos means more. Marshall stated on a Super Bowl-winner in Denver. After an injury-plagued 2018, he wants to beat his former club. Whether it’s just business or deeply personal remains to be seen.
“‘You can’t have all Boy Scouts,’ GM Mike Mayock said Tuesday in defending the move. But that’s a copout. Incognito, on the range of renegade players, resides at the polar opposite of ‘Boy Scout.’ He has proven time and again to have a short fuse, issues with impulse control and an inability to treat others with proper dignity and respect.”
While Mike Florio incurs the wrath of many for his penchant for hot takes, this thought feels right. Incognito is a headache. The signing sets the bad precedent of ignoring atrocious behavior. Not to mention, the aspect of mental health issues loom.
Antonio Brown, on QB/WR chemistry
“It’s extremely important to have a relationship off the field because playing football, you get mental tired, you get frustrated,” Brown told reporters. “You always want to have that respect for a guy to know where he’s coming from, know what he stands for and know what’s important to him, so you guys can be on the same page and do what you desire to do and desire to win.
Despite years of success, Antonio Brown grew tired of Ben Roethlisberger. Big Ben, through his whining and political machinations managed to submarine the Steelers. Derek Carr does not possess the ego of the Steelers’ QB.
Brown, on challenges
“We’re bringing the juice,” Brown said. “Challenging each other every day, competing and just holding each other accountable knowing what to do, knowing how to do it and bringing it to the meetings, to the practice field and being able to execute.”
The Raiders have a true lead receiver with explosive ability. Granted, Michael Crabtree evolved into Carr’s favorite target. However, he lacked the ability to make defenses pay like Brown can.
The Oakland Raiders stand either at the precipice of greatness or last line before despair. Players like Brown and Marshall are key parts in whatever 2019 success they could enjoy.
