Paul Heyman & Eric Bischoff Returning To Executive Direct WWE Shows

Two legendary wrestling bookers are returning to help run Raw and SmackDown Live. WWE announced (h/t WrestlingInc) That Paul Heyman will be the Executive Director of Raw, and Eric Bischoff will hold the same position for SmackDown Live. WWE’s press release explains the roles:

In their executive roles, Heyman and Bischoff will oversee the creative development of WWE’s flagship programming and ensure integration across all platforms and lines of business. The creation of these roles further establishes WWE’s ability to continuously reinvent its global brand while providing two distinct creative processes for its flagship shows.”

Heyman is known for his time running Extreme Championship Wrestling from 1993-2001. He also was the head of the creative team for SmackDown during the first brand split. Bischoff is known for being President of WCW during the height of the Monday Night Wars. 

Both men are expected to start their roles immediately, and will report to Vince McMahon. Fightful reported that many backstage were surprised by the announcement. Other reactions ranged from surprise to pessimism.

Moxley vs Janela Match Will Be Unsanctioned

One of the biggest matches on Saturday’s Fyter Fest card has a new stipulation. Jon Moxley and Joey Janela will meet in an unsanctioned match. Both men are known for their hardcore matches, and they’ll be able to add a chapter to their hardcore stories.

Fyter Fest is scheduled to stream live on BleacherReport Live. The show starts with the pre-show at 7:30 pm and the main card at 8:30 pm.

Ring Of Honor Best In The World This Weekend

ROH’s annual Best in the World two-night event takes place Friday and Saturday. Friday night’s show is the main pay-per-view in Baltimore, Maryland. Saturday’s event will be a television taping, and will take place in Philadelphia. The card for Friday night looks like this:

  • ROH World Championship: Matt Taven (c) vs Jeff Cobb
  • ROH Television Championship: Shane Taylor (c) vs Bandido
  • Pure Rules Match: Silas Young vs Jonathan Gresham
  • Dalton Castle vs Dragon Lee
