Carlos Santana hoped to be just the fourth player in Home Run Derby history to win in his home ballpark.

The Cleveland Indians slugger hit 13 home runs in the first round of the 2019 Home Run Derby at Progressive Field. It was not enough to advance. Pete Alonso of the New York Mets eliminated the hometown fan favorite 14-13.

It marked the first time in Santana’s career that he has appeared in the Home Run Derby. Santana hoped to join Ryne Sandberg, Todd Frazier and Bryce Harper as the only players to win the contest in their home ballpark.
Santana’s All-Star week continues Tuesday when he starts at first base for the American League. He will hit fourth.
