The Kansas City Chiefs will begin their 2019 season traveling to Jacksonville for a matchup with the Jaguars. Each year, the first week of the regular season provides plenty of unknowns. Many teams are still starting to gel, either offensively or defensively. There is often many never before seen play calls.
Meanwhile, there is plenty of unknowns surrounding this Jacksonville Jaguars team. Will Nick Foles achieve the same success that he did in Philadelphia? Is Leonard Fournette focused on his starting RB job? Can Jacksonville’s defense remain among the best in the league? With all those questions in mind, let’s get to know the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The Jaguars were able to land quarterback Nick Foles in free agency this offseason. Foles stepped in for Carson Wentz in each of the last two seasons. Both times, he did his job well and even brought the Eagles a Super Bowl championship. He was also the MVP in that Super Bowl victory.
However, there are limitations for him being the savior in Jacksonville. The skill players are less impressive and less experienced for the Jaguars compared to the Eagles. I just don’t envision the Jaguars being able to score enough points to keep up with high powered offenses, including the Chiefs. Also, Doug Marrone is not near as good of a head coach as Doug Pederson is. Foles has his work cut out for him down in Jacksonville.
For the last few years, the Jaguars defense has arguably been the tops in the AFC. From a relenting pass rush, to a feisty, fiery secondary, Jacksonville has built a menace on that side of the ball. The Jaguars do have some work to do though, to keep those pieces in place.
Linebacker Myles Jack was recently given a four year extension. On the other hand, Jalen Ramsey and Yannick Ngakoue are expected to receive big pay days soon too. Ramsey is one of the best cornerbacks in the NFL. His coverage skills and mouth can easily frustrate opponents. Then, you have Ngakoue. Ngakoue has been a sack machine early in his career, so far. He held out of some offseason activities, and he expects to receive a massive salary upgrade. As long as the Jaguars continue to draft well on defense, losing some of these expensive defenders may not hurt as much.
Luck Of The Draw
The AFC South division may have just became the worst division in the NFL. Following Andrew Luck‘s retirement, the Indianapolis Colts have decreased as division favorites. The odds in Vegas basically cut the Colts expected win total in half after the shocking retirement. As a result, Jacksonville may feel like they can sneak into the playoffs. There is a lot of work to do and areas to improve in. But, they reached the AFC Championship Game just two years ago. Therefore, the Jaguars may be a sleeper in 2019.
