Unlike on the road, red means go in the NFL. The Red Zone is defined as the area inside an opponent’s 20-yard line. Being that close to the end zone, it is naturally easier to score a TD. Therefore, it is advantageous to know which players are getting the most work within 20 yards of the score zone. Here is the Red Zone Report Week 3.
AFC East
Buffalo Bills
RB Frank Gore had 1 RZ rushing attempt and it occurred inside the 5-yard line. But that was only a fraction of the Bills total RZ carries. QB Josh Allen and RB T.J. Yeldon each received 2 runs in the RZ. Yeldon was also targeted once in that area. Other RZ targets went to WR Cole Beasley, TE Dawson Knox and TE Tommy Sweeney, who each saw 1.
Miami Dolphins
After being held out of the RZ the previous week, the Dolphins were much better at moving the football in week 3. RB Kalen Ballage got 3 RZ rushing attempts, including 2 inside the 5-yard line. RB Kenyan Drake saw the only other carry inside the 20. As fr RZ targets, WR Preston Williams led the way with 3, while WR DeVante Parker and TE Durham Smythe got 1 apiece.
New England Patriots
RB Rex Burkhead and RB Sony Michel had all of their RZ runs inside the 5-yard line. It was 2 for Michel and 1 for Burkhead. In addition, Burkhead saw 2 RZ targets while Michel had 1. For other RZ targets, WR Julian Edelman and WR Josh Gordon received 2 each, while WR Phillip Dorsett saw 1.
New York Jets
The Jets are the only team that did not have any RZ opportunities in week 3.
AFC North
Baltimore Ravens
RB Mark Ingram saw all 4 of the Ravens RZ rushing attempts, including 3 from inside the 5-yard line. Looking at RZ targets, they all went to the TEs. Mark Andrews had 3, Hayden Hurst got 2 and Nick Boyle received 1.
Cincinnati Bengals
QB Andy Dalton snuck in a RZ run for a TD. However, it was RB Joe Mixon who had the most work with 2 RZ carries and 1 RZ target. Aside from Mixon, the only other player with a RZ target was TE Tyler Eifert.

Cleveland Browns
RB Nick Chubb received 3 RZ rushing attempts and 2 targets. Only WR Jarvis Landry had more RZ targets for the Browns in week 3 with 4. Other RZ targets went to TE Demetrius Harris and WR Damion Ratley with 2 each and WR Odell Beckham who saw 1.
Pittsburgh Steelers
RB James Conner had the Steelers only RZ carry in week 3 and 1 of the team’s total RZ targets. WR JuJu Smith-Schuster had the other.
AFC South
Houston Texans
RB Carlos Hyde got both of the Texans RZ rushing attempts in week 3. One of those carries also came inside the 5-yard line. TE Jordan Akins received 2 RZ target, while fellow TE Darren Fells got the other one.
Indianapolis Colts
RB Marlon Mack saw 3 RZ rushing attempts, including 2 from inside the 5-yard line. Before leaving week 3 with an injury, WR T.Y. Hilton had 3 RZ targets. Other players that were targeted in the RZ were WR Zach Pascal with 2 and RB Nyheim Hines with 1.
Jacksonville Jaguars
RB Leonard Fournette finally got some RZ carries, with 3 in week 3. TE James O’Shaughnessy and WR Dede Westbrook each saw RZ target.
Tennessee Titans
Both RB Derrick Henry and RB Dion Lewis received a RZ rushing attempt. The only difference was that Herny got his inside the 5-yard line. TE Delanie Walker saw both of the Titans RZ targets in week 3.
AFC West

Denver Broncos
It was all about running in the RZ. Phillip Lindsay saw 7 RZ rushing attempts, including 4 from inside the 5. RB Royce Freeman also added 4 RZ runs, while QB Joe Flacco had 1. As for RZ targets, WR Courtland Sutton received 2 while TE Troy Fumagalli and WR Emmanuel Sanders got 1 each.
Kansas City Chiefs
RB LeSean McCoy led the way with 3 RZ carries, 2 of which were inside the 5-yard line, and 3 RZ targets. RB Darwin Thompson received 2 RZ rushing attempts, while RB Darrel Williams had 1 run inside the 5 and 1 RZ target. Speaking of RZ targets, WR Mecole Hardman and WR Demarcus Robinson each saw 1.
Los Angeles Chargers
RB Austin Ekeler had the Chargers only RZ carry in week 3. He did, however, also get a RZ target. For other RZ targets, WR Keenan Allen received 2 while RB Justin Jackson and WR Mike Williams saw 1 each.
Oakland Raiders
TE Darren Waller and WR Tyrell Williams were the only players to get RZ opportunities with 1 RZ target apiece.
NFC East
Dallas Cowboys

RB Ezekiel Elliott received most of the Cowboys RZ rushing attempts. RB Tony Pollard and QB Dak Prescott each got 1, but Elliott had the other 5. WR Amari Cooper and WR Devin Smith had 2 RZ target each, while TE Jason Witten saw 1 target inside the 20-yard line.
New York Giants
A new era in New York comes with a new RZ philosophy. Replacing one of the least mobile players, QB Daniel Jones had a RZ rushing attempt in his first career NFL start. RB Saquon Barkley only ran the ball once inside the 20-yard line. He was also targeted there once before exiting with an injury. The other players to see RZ targets were WR Russell Shepard with 3, TE Evan Engram with 2 as well as WR Bennie Fowler and WR Sterling Shepard with 1 each.

by Full Press Coverage on March 25, 2023 at 12:09 am
Philadelphia Eagles
RB Jordan Howard and RB Miles Sanders each received 3 RZ carries. The only difference was that this time, Howard got 2 rushing attempts inside the 5-yard line. RB Darren Sproles also ran the ball 1 time in the RZ, and caught 1 target in that area as well. As for other RZ targets, WR Nelson Agholor saw 3 and WR Mack Hollins got 1.
Washington
RB Chris Thompson had 3 RZ carries, including 2 inside the 5-yard line. Meanwhile, RB Adrian Peterson received 2 RZ rushing attempts while QB Case Keenum got 1. None of those came inside the 5. TE Vernon Davis and WR Paul Richardson each saw a pair of RZ targets, while WR Terry McLaurin and TE Jeremy Sprinkle had 1 apiece.
NFC North
Chicago Bears
WR Taylor Gabriel was the primary RZ weapon for the Bears in week 3. He saw 1 rushing attempt and 2 targets inside the 20-yard line. Other Chicago RZ opportunities went to RB David Montgomery with a carry and WR Allen Robinson with a target.

Detroit Lions
RB Kerryon Johnson received 4 RZ rushing attempts, including 3 from inside the 5-yard line. Several Lions saw RZ targets, but only two players had multiple. TE T.J. Hockenson had 3, while WR Marvin Jones got 2. Others players with RZ targets include WR Danny Amendola, WR Kenny Golladay and TE Logan Thomas with 1 each.
Green Bay Packers
RB Aaron Jones saw all 3 of the Packers RZ carries, including 2 from inside the 5-yard line. WR Marquez Valdes-Scantling received the lone Green Bay RZ target from week 3.
Minnesota Vikings
RB Dalvin Cook and RB Alexander Mattison each had 4 RZ rushing attempts. The only difference was that Cook saw 2 from inside the 5-yard line. RB Mike Boone and WR Adam Thielen each received a RZ carry. Again, one element that separates these players is that Thielen’s run came from inside the 5. The Vikings only threw 1 RZ pass and it went to TE Kyle Rudolph.
NFC South
Atlanta Falcons
RB Devonta Freeman saw all 3 of the Falcons RZ carries. As for the RZ targets, TE Austin Hooper received 3, WR Julio Jones got 2 and TE Luke Stocker had 1.
Carolina Panthers
RB Christian McCaffrey ran the ball 6 times in the RZ, including once from inside the 5-yard line. WR D.J. Moore also received a RZ rushing attempt. Meanwhile the week 3 RZ targets were split between WR Curtis Samuel with 3 and TE Greg Olsen with 2.
New Orleans Saints

In a run-heavy approach in week 3 RZ opportunities, RB Alvin Kamara got 5 carries, including 1 from inside the 5-yard line. He also saw 1 RZ target, as did WR Michael Thomas. The only other RZ opportunities were runs by QB Teddy Bridgewater and RB Zach Line, who had 1 apiece.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
RB Ronald Jones saw 4 of the Buccanneers RZ rushing attempts while RB Peyton Barber had 2. The one element the edges toward Barber is that 1 of those runs came inside the 5-yard line, while Jones had 0. WR Mike Evans was the only Tampa Bay player with a week 3 RZ target, and he received 4 of them.
NFC West
Arizona Cardinals
QB Kyler Murray saw 2 RZ rushing attempts. RB David Johnson saw only 1 RZ carry, but it came inside the 5-yard line. However, Johnson led the Cardinals in week 3 RZ targets with 2. Other RZ targets went to TE Charles Clay, WR Larry Fitzgerald and WR Christian Kirk who each got 1.
Los Angeles Rams
The Rams RZ rushing attempts were spread out in week 3. RB Malcolm Brown, QB Jared Goff and WR Robert Woods each ran the ball once in the RZ. But it was RB Todd Gurley was in front with 2 RZ carries, including 1 from inside the 5-yard line. Gurley also saw a RZ target, but he was not the only one. WR Cooper Kupp received 3 RZ targets and WR Josh Reynolds got 2.
San Francisco 49ers
RB Jeff Wilson led the NFL in week 3 RZ carries with 8. 3 of those came inside the 5-yard line. The 49ers ran a lot in the RZ as Raheem Mostert got 2 RZ rushing attempts while RB Matt Breida got 1. Even with all of those rushing attempts, there were still enough RZ targets for WR Dante Pettis to get 3 and for TE George Kittle to get 2. WR Kendrick Bourne, WR Richie James and RB Kyle Juszczyk each received a RZ target.
Seattle Seahawks
In week 3, RB Chris Carson saw 3 RZ rushing attempts, but unlike other games, he was not the only one. Other Seahawks with RZ runs were RB C.J. Prosise and QB Russell Wilson. Both of those attempts came inside the 5-yard line, unlike any of Carson’s runs in week 3. Another change for the Seahawks was how spread out the RZ targets were. WR Tyler Lockett led the way with 3 while WR Jaron Brown TE Will Dissly and WR D.K. Metcalf each had 2. Furthermore, in his first game of 2019, WR David Moore also saw 1 RZ target.
