Welcome to Week Five of the 2019 NFL Season! The Patriots travel to Washington today to take on the Redskins, and we’ll have up to the minute updates and opinions in our Week Five Live Blog. Stick around, you’ll be smarter for it. The Patriots have looked every bit the defending champ that they are, dominating on defense over the first month of the season. The offense is banged up on the offensive line and the weapons in the passing game are somewhat questionable, but they have found a way to score, for the most part. The Redskins are in the opposite position- they are maybe, besides the Dolphins, the worst team in the NFL.
Washington has questions all over the place, and they have a lame-duck head coach in Jay Gruden, so that situation is ugly. It is important to remember that these are still NFL players with pride, so the Patriots cannot afford to take them lightly. Here are the inactive players for today’s matchup:
Patriots- QB Cody Kessler, S Patrick Chung, RB Rex Burkhead, RB Damien Harris, S Nate Ebner, OL Korey Cunningham, DL Byron Cowart
Redskins- QB Case Keenum, LB Josh Harvey-Clemons, CB Aaron Colvin, G Brandon Scherff, TE Vernon Davis, TE Jordan Reed, C Ross Pierschbacker
We are about 20 minutes away from kickoff, so get your snacks ready, fire up your wireless device and television, and let’s get ready for another great NFL Sunday. Enjoy the game!
FIRST QUARTER
15:00- The Redskins elected to receive, and Colt McCoy and Co. will come onto the field first. Away we go…and the Patriots just called timeout; before a single play. FOOOOOCUS.
14:54- 12-yard reception for a 1st down by McLaurin; 1st & 10…
14:24- Peterson runs for two yards; 2nd & 8…
13:40- Thompson tried to stretch it out, but Hightower had awesome pursuit and shut it down. 3rd & 9…
13:01- SACK!! Winovich picks up his 4th sack of the year, an impressive stat for a rookie who only plays on passing downs. Olszewski fair caught it at the 17, and that is where Brady and the offense will take over. 1st & 10, Patriots…
12:28- Incomplete on the drop by LaCosse; 2nd & 10…
12:18- Michel picks up 11 on the catch in the flat; 1st & 10…
11:54- Gordon on the comeback for five; 2nd & 5…
11:38- Nobody was open, and pressure forced Brady to throw it away; 3rd & 5…
11:12- White for eight and another Patriots 1st down; 1st & 10…

11:02- Pressure again forces a throwaway; 3rd & 10…
10:57- Brady sacked, and that series comes to an end pretty quickly. New England continues the trend from last week- bad offense.
10:06- Peterson runs for two; 2nd & 8…
9:27- Touchdown, Redskins. The Patriots aren’t able to tackle (five guys were near him, two had their hands on him) and that leads to the long touchdown run on the end-around. That was pathetic. Redskins 7, Patriots 0
9:20- Michel runs for a gain of zero; Dorsett is also hurt. 2nd & 10…
8:55- Izzo for 20 and a 1st down…
8:27- And this time he finds LaCosse for 15 more; 1st & 10 from the 25…
7:59- Michel with a gain of 16 through the air; 1st & Goal…
7:33- Michel for three; 2nd & Goal…
7;13- TOUCHDOWN, PATRIOTS!! Edelman makes the catch, and that is what we should expect to see from the Patriots offense. New England went no-huddle for the score. One would assume the game is tied, but of course, newly signed kicker Mike Nugent missed the extra point. This has been an ugly start overall for the Patriots. Redskins 7, Patriots 6
7:03- SACK! Shelton makes the sack and the Redskins lose seven on the play; 2nd & 17…
6:22- Weird throw by McCoy that was incomplete; 3rd & 17…
6:18- Screen is incomplete because Jamie Collins just applied too much pressure; 4th & 17…
6:11- Fair-caught at the Patriots 46; good field position for Brady and the offense, who will likely stay in their up-tempo offense. 1st & 10, Patriots…
6:01- Brady sacked for a loss of 10; Newhouse lost the block. 2nd & 20…

3:40- Edelman picks up 10 of the 14 they needed; 3rd & 4…Edelman jumps offside (foooooocus), 3rd & 9…
2:46- Gordon makes the catch for what appeared to be eight, but the Patriots got a great spot that could be challenged (it is, and it WILL be 4th down after the review, I promise.) 4th & 1…
2:46- The Patriots will go for it…
2:30- …and it doesn’t work because it was a trick play direct snap to James White; yuck. 1st & 10, Redskins, and they also have all the momentum in the game.
2:08- Peterson runs for seven; 2nd & 3…
1:48- Peterson runs for one; 3rd & 2…
1:03- Four yards and a first down on the completion; 1st & 10…
:18- McCoy runs for nine; 2nd & 1 as the 1st quarter comes to an end. The Redskins came to play today, and if the Patriots don’t wake up, this will be their “2018 Detroit” all over again. Redskins 7, Patriots 6
SECOND QUARTER
15:00- Loss of one on the run; 3rd & 2…
14:09- SACK! Hightower makes a huge play to try and regain some momentum; 4th & 9…

13:23- Michel runs for four; 2nd & 6…

11:29- Call stands; 1st & 10, Patriots…
11:23- Incomplete to Edelman, who dropped an easy catch; 2nd & 10…
11:19- Slow-developing screen play is knocked down by Kerrigan; 3rd & 10…
11:14- Slant to White for a gain of three, and out comes Nugent…
10:36- FIELD GOAL, PATRIOTS! Nugent drills the 37-yard field goal, and the Patriots take the lead for the first time this afternoon. They are driving pretty easily, but mistakes are costing them big time today in the points department. Patriots 9, Redskins 7
10:30- Loss of three on the run by Sims; that was a similar play to the touchdown. 2nd & 13…

8:00- Sack; Brady loses 12 on the play; 2nd & 17…
7:24- Incomplete pass; 3rd & 17…
6:54- Edelman picked up 16, and it appeared they were going for it, but they punt team ran on the field at the last second to set up for the punt.

6:04- Incomplete pass intended for Gordon; 2nd & 10…
5:57- White picks up four on the catch; 3rd & 6…
5:19- Interception, Redskins. Brady chucks it up like a rookie and gives away points…again. That is two weeks in a row that Brady has thrown a terrible interception in the red zone and gave away points. 1st & 10, Redskins, from their own one.
5:13- Peterson somehow ends up with four yards when he appeared stuffed at the goal line; 2nd & 4…false start, 2nd & 9…
4:12- 19-yard gain by McLaurin; 1st & 10…
3:46- Peterson running hard, but the Redskins are called for holding again. 1st & 20…false start, 1st & 25. This is gross football being played by both teams.
