Welcome to Week Six Live Blog! Your 5-0 New England Patriots host the 2-3 New York Giants at Gillette Stadium tonight in what could be a blowout. The Giants are extremely banged up. They are missing starters all throughout their offense. They’re led by rookie quarterback Daniel Jones, who will have his hands full facing the best defense in the NFL.

The Patriots have some issues with their passing game, so not everything is perfect in Foxboro. Tom Brady will try to get on the same page with his weapons, but the most important thing is protection. The offensive line has been very inconsistent due to the injuries the Patriots have dealt with over the first half of the season.

We are less than one hour from game time, so get yourself squared away with whatever you have to do to pregame. Fire up that TV, open a tab for the Week Six Live Blog, and enjoy the game! We will post the inactive players in about 15 minutes. Enjoy the game, and don’t be afraid to leave a comment on the blog.

Inactive

Patriots- OL Korey Cunningham, DL Byron Cowart, RB Rex Burkhead, RB Damien Harris, QB Cody Kessler, WR Phillip Dorsett, CB JoeJuan Williams

Giants- RB Saquon Barkley, RB Wayne Gallman, TE Evan Engram, WR Sterling Shepard, LB Tae Davis,DT Eric Smith, G Chad Slade

Those first four players listed for the Giants are basically their best offensive skill players. Needless to say that this might be a tough night for the Giants offense.

FIRST QUARTER

15:00- The Patriots take the opening kickoff and return it to the 30. The offense will start their first series.

14:49- Michel runs for four; 2nd & 6…

14:13- Michel picks up 19 on the catch, something they need to do more to get defenders out of the box when he is in the backfield. 1st & 10…

13:43- Bolden, who runs HARD, runs for 22 off tackle; 1st & 10 from the Giants 28…

13:06- Gordon picks up seven on the catch; 2nd & 3…

12:31- Michel runs right into a pile up front; 3rd & 1…

11:57- This team struggles in short yardage; Michel runs for nothing, 4th & 1…

11:15- The offensive line is simply not good enough right now. It didn’t look like he got the 1st, and he didn’t. That is horrible offensive line play. The had two downs to gain THREE FEET and they couldn’t do it. Time to stop worrying about trading for a wide receiver and change that focus to a tackle that can block. 1st & 10, Giants, who now have ALL the momentum in a game the Patriots should win by 40.

11:05- Gain of nine on 1st down for NY; 2nd & 1…

10:30- No gain; 3rd & 1..

9:52- Wow, this defense is no joke. They allow nine yards on first down, and then they slammed the door shut to force the punt; 4th & 1…great punt, and the Patriots offense will take over at their own 20. 1st & 10…

9:37- Sack. Wow, this O-line is really bad so far; 2nd & 17…

8:55- Gain of seven by Meyers; 3rd & 10…

8:05- Three and out for New England and the punt is fair caught at the Giants 28. 1st & 10, Giants…

7:51- Hillman runs for three; 2nd & 7…

7:08- INTERCEPTION!! Simon picks off the deflection and sets up the offense with decent field position. Gilmore with the strong PBU that led to the pick; 1st & 10, Patriots…

6:47- Aaaaand Brady throws it right back to them on either a terrible throw or bad communication. Awful start; Brady is terrible against the Giants, even when he isn’t getting pressured. That pass should have been a completion. 1st & 10, Giants…

6:44- McCourty with strong run support; 2nd & 9…

6:09- Hillman runs for four; 3rd & 5…

5:30- Gilmore drops the pick on the slant, but the Patriots still get the stop. Olszewski made the fair catch at the Patriots 10. Can the Patriots offense actually get something going against this 30th ranked Giants defense? Are the Giants Tom Brady’s kryptonite? I have so many questions. I wonder if they’ll be answered in the next drive. 1st & 10…

5:18- Dropped pass, Michel; 2nd & 10…

5:14- Gain of one by White; this is ugly. 3rd & 9…

4:31- Flags everywhere on a completion for what should be a first down…and it is a first down because both penalties were on the Giants. 1st & 10…

4:15- Michel runs for three; 2nd & 7…

3:43- Edelman appeared to fumble, but the Giants lost the challenge. The Patriots are forced to punt, again. 1st & 10, Giants…

3:25- Van Noy with the tackle for no gain, just missing a sack; 2nd & 10…

3:02- One yard gain as the Giants are trying to rush up and make a play…didn’t work. 3rd & 9…

2:18- No gain on the screen pass (Giants jumped, wasn’t called) and the Patriots come up with another three-and-out.

1:41- TOUCHDOWN, PATRIOTS!! Bolden pushed the personnel protector back into the punt and forced the deflection which was caught and returned for a touchdown by rookie defensive end Chase Winovich. This team is very talented on defense and specials, which they need to make up for their aging offense. Nugent connected on the extra point; Patriots 7, Giants 0

1:33- First down reception for Slaton, the first of the night. 1st & 10…

1:10- Three yard gain on the ground; 2nd & 7…

:20- Pass is complete on the slant for 10 yards and another first down. Daniel Jones looks legit. That is the end of the first quarter, a quarter the Patriots offense really struggled in, but again they were picked up by the defense. Patriots 7, Giants 0

SECOND QUARTER

15:00- Pass was overthrown on a play that Slaton had a step; 2nd & 10…

14:48- Ellison with the catch for five; 3rd & 5…

14:06- Jonathan Jones breaks up the pass to force the punt. The Giants were called for illegal formation, so the Patriots will start from their own 15. 1st & 10…

13:52- Edelman with the catch for 15; 1st & 10…

13:17- Olszewski with a gain of five on the catch; 2nd & 5…

12:44- White with the catch on the bubble screen; 1st & 10…

12:09- Michel gains three on a play that looked like it could have gone for much more; 2nd & 7…

11:26- Once again, bad blocking. No gain; 3rd & 7…

10:53- Brady throws it behind Izzo; this is hard to watch tonight. Did I ever tell you all how much I HATE Thursday Night Football? Yuck. Patriots 7, Giants 0

10:42- Gain of six on first down; 2nd & 4…

10:08- Gain of four, and the Giants pick up another first down…

9:26- INTERCEPTION, PATRIOTS!! Harmon makes the play after Simon hits Jones’s arm on the throw. 1st & 10, Patriots, from the Giants 20…

9:19- Brady drops the snap, then almost throws a pick; 2nd & 10…

9:11- Meyers with the catch at the two; that was a beautiful catch. 1st & Goal…

8:29- Bolden for one in an area that is not a strong point right now; 2nd & Goal…

7:35- Brady stuffed; 3rd & Goal…

7:11- TOUCHDOWN, PATRIOTS!! Bolden pushes it in, finally. The extra point is good, and the Patriots, who have NOT played well on offense, lead by two touchdowns. Patriots 14, Giants 0

7:06- Tate picks up seven on the catch; 2nd & 3…

6:04- Touchdown, Giants. 64-yard touchdown catch and run by Golden Tate. Where is the safety help on that play? Patriots 14, Giants 7

5:57- Edelman picks up 24 on the play-action pass; 1st & 10…

5:09- Great tackle by Haley on Edelman; 2nd & 12…

4:39- Touchdown, Giants. Brady holds the ball forever, and is strip-sacked which leads to a touchdown. Here is the kicker- Josh Gordon raced down the field to make the play, and appeared to injure his leg, possibly seriously. The Patriots should be ashamed of themselves tonight. Unprepared, and it is obvious they took these guys lightly. We are allowed to do that in the media; they are not allowed to do that though. Giants 14, Patriots 14

4:12- Gain of five by Michel; 2nd & 5…

3:55- Michel for five more; 1st & 10…

3:26- Michel runs for two; 2nd & 8…

2:45- Michel runs for two; this is very predictable offense and hard to watch. 3rd & 6…

2:34- White picks up eight on the catch; 1st & 10, a MUCH needed 1st down…

2:00- Meyers with the catch for 23 yards; 1st & 10…

1:28- Edelman gains four on the catch; 2nd & 6…

1:14- Brady eludes pressure, gains eight on the throw and another 1st down.

:44- White picks up five on the catch; 2nd & 5…

:38- White was awarded the touchdown, but his elbow was down and it shouldn’t be a touchdown. We’ll see…

No touchdown. Patriots use a timeout to avoid 10-second runoff.

:36- TOUCHDOWN, PATRIOTS!! Brady drives it forward for six, and the Patriots retake the lead after an ugly few minutes. Nugent hooked his third extra point through (the wind isn’t helping) to make it a seven-point game. Patriots 21, Giants 14

:32- Ball is returned to the 20; 1st & 10…

:30- The Giants will take a knee, and we will head to halftime. This has been an ugly game for the Patriots, but they still hold a seven-point lead.

PATRIOTS 21, GIANTS 14

HALFTIME

THIRD QUARTER

15:00- The Patriots will kickoff to start the second half, and the Giants return it to the 22. 1st & 10…

14:49- Missed assignment leads to a 10-yard run and a 1st down…

14:20- No pressure and the Giants pick up 18 more…

13:52- Two-yard run; 2nd & 8…

13:21- No pressure, again. A gain of five; 3rd & 3…

12:49- Now the Giants look like the 2007 Giants; another 1st down…

12:12- INTERCEPTION, PATRIOTS!! The Giants return to the 2019 version and throw a pick to Stephon Gilmore; Jones just made a bad read, but he was looking pretty good on that drive for a while. 1st & 10, Patriots…

12:06- Michel runs for nine on 1st down; 2nd & 1…

11:36- Of course, no gain on 2nd & 1, so again the Patriots face 3rd & 1…

11:00- Brady sneaks for the 1st; 1st & 10…

10:21- Michel runs for two; 2nd & 8…

9:32- Michel with the catch for eight; 1st & 10…

9:03- Nothing there for Michel; 2nd & 10…

8:20- Holding on the Giants gives the Patriots an automatic first down; 1st & 10 from the Patriots 44…

8:13- Bolden picks up six on the catch; Brady audibled to the play, picking up a double a-gap blitz. 1st & 10…

7:32- What appeared to be a nice run is a hold on Edelman, which is a killer penalty. 2nd & 14…

6:50- Bolden for 16 yards on the screen; 1st & 10…

6:16- Edelman picks up 12 on the crossing route; 1st & 10…

5:31- Meyers picks up one; 2nd & 9…

4:55- White picks up two; 3rd & 7…

4:20- Brady misses his target, Izzo, on 3rd down. He just missed him, and the Patriots will go for it because the wind is wild…

4:15- Edelman was held, giving the Patriots a first down. The pass was short, but it won’t matter. The wind is crazy, that pass just got knocked right down. 1st & 10…

4:12- Brady misses by a mile again; not good. 2nd & 10…

4:08- Edelman picks up five; 2nd & 5…

3:29- I can’t explain how much I hate that call on 3rd down. Wow. Field goal attempt…

2:47- Field goal is no good. The ball hit the upright and bounced out. This has not been a fun night for the Patriots. 1st & 10, Giants…

2:45- Holding on the Giants; 1st & 20…

2:10- Jones gains nine on the run; 2nd & 11…

:05- Wise gets pressure, and the Giants now face 3rd & 8…

:01- Gilmore with a great PBU, and the Giants punt team will come on the field.

:00- Olszewski with the 10-yard return to end the 3rd quarter. Can the Patriots put together a drive to end this game? We shall see. Patriots 21, Giants 14

FOURTH QUARTER

15:00- Michel runs for two; 2nd & 8…

14:12- Olszewski picks up 29 on the reception; he’s showing up tonight, which is good to see, but Gordon is still out. 1st & 10…

13:28- Michel runs for no gain; 2nd & 10…

12:48- Edelman picks up seven on the catch; 3rd & 3…

12:16- Pass is caught by White for five; 1st & 10…

11:35- Sack, Giants. BLOCK! 2nd & 14…

10:54- Brady barely gets it out to Izzo for 11; 3rd & 3…

10:07- Awful, awful, AWFUL play call; a toss? Seriously? 4th & 5…

9:28- Incomplete pass, turnover on downs. That play call on 3rd down…seriously?! When has the outside run (a TOSS no less) been there tonight? Seriously, when? That’s right, it hasn’t been there all night. Josh McDaniels, wake up. 1st & 10, Giants.

9:20- Intense pressure from Bentley as Jones throws it to nowhere; 2nd & 10…

9:16- Collins makes the tackle after a gain of one; 3rd & 9…

8:32- FUMBLE RECOVERED BY NEW ENGLAND! Van Noy returned it for what appeared to be a touchdown, but he was marked out at the two. Bad spot, that was a score.

TOUCHDOWN, PATRIOTS!! After the review, the call on the field is reversed, and the Patriots defense picks up yet another score. Nugent drilled the extra point perfectly, and the Patriots take the two-touchdown lead. Patriots 28, Giants 14

8:19- Gain of three on the run; 2nd & 7…

7:48- Tate picks up five; 3rd & 2…

7:08- Slaton is covered by Jackson well, forcing 4th down…4th & 2…and they’ll punt? Weird. 30-yard punt due to hurricane winds and the Patriots not only get the gift punt, but they also get strong field position. Patriots 28, Giants 14

6:52- Michel runs for 14 strong yards; 1st & 10…

6:13- Michel runs for four more; 2nd & 6…

5:34- Edelman almost got hurt on that catch due to a low tackle; 1st & 10…

4:53- No gain by Michel; 2nd & 10…

4:42- Edelman with the catch for 37 yards; 1st & Goal from the Giants three…

4:25- Brady stopped at the one; 2nd & Goal…

3:49- TOUCHDOWN, PATRIOTS!! Brady sneaks it in again, and the Patriots go ahead by three touchdowns. The extra point was hooked in yet again, and the Patriots lead by 21. Patriots 35, Giants 14

3:32- Gain of seven; 2nd & 3…

3:17- Jones throws it away under heavy pressure; 3rd & 3…

3:11- Jones throws it away because a heat-seeking Patriot was after him; 2nd & 10…

2:59- Incomplete pass after the pressure by Calhoun; 3rd & 10…

2:52- Pass is broken up by Jones; 4th & 10… the Giants are challenging that there was interference, which there was. Most likely 1st & 10…and I’m dead wrong. 4th & 10…I could just delete that, but I’m keeping it real.

2:49- Incomplete pass on the great PBU by Gilmore, who has dominated tonight. 1st & 10, Patriots…

2:39- Michel runs for two; 2nd & 8…

2:00- Michel runs for 20; 1st & Goal…

1:20- VICTORY formation, and the Patriots will continue their win streak as they start 2019 with a 6-0 record. It wasn’t pretty on offense, but they still won big, although this game was closer than the final score.

Thanks again for joining us this week! Be sure to join us next week when the Patriots take on the hated rival New York Jets on Monday Night Football. New England gets a mini-bye week with a Thursday-to-Monday game schedule, which will allow some of the banged-up guys to get healthy. Have a great week everyone! We’ll see you all next week.

FINAL SCORE- NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS 35, NEW YORK GIANTS 14
