The Wrestling Roundup is here to bring you all the news and rumors you need to know in one place.

WWE SmackDown Results:

It was the last SmackDown of the 2010’s on Friday night. What kind of action would be in store for us? First the results:

  • Braun Strowman & New Day def. The Artists (Shinsuke Nakamura, Sami Zayn, & Cesaro)
  • Carmella def. Mandy Rose
  • Boss & Hug Connection def. Lacey Evans & Dana Brooke
  • Daniel Bryan def. The Miz and Baron Corbin to become #1 Contender for the WWE Universal Championship

SmackDown Takeaways:

Daniel Bryan is getting another shot at Bray Wyatt. It is the best option for the Universal Championship picture for the Royal Rumble. Bryan is looking to get vengeance for the last time he encountered The Fiend, and represents a legitimate threat to Wyatt’s reign (sorry, Miz). These two put on a great match at the 2014 Royal Rumble and have a chance to recapture the magic six years later.

Dolph Ziggler will be wrestling Roman Reigns on New Years Eve. To make him more hated, he ruined the fruitcake that Otis’ mom made for Mandy Rose. It’s the most heel thing I’ve seen on television in a while.

A Moment of Bliss has returned! Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross hosted Lacey Evans. Since Evans had a match later that night, it was almost guaranteed that her opponent would attack her. Sure enough, Bayley and Sasha Banks attacked and Dana Brooke made the save. SmackDown is doing a fine job of using more of their women’s roster week to week, and hopefully this trend keeps up.

Cody Rhodes’ Trademark For Dusty Rhodes Hits Interesting Roadblock

According to ProWrestlingSheet, Cody Rhodes’ trademark of his father’s name was denied for an interesting reason. It was found that Dusty Rhodes was too similar to another name: Dustin Rhodes, the name trademarked by Dusty’s other son and Cody’s brother. The report finds that Cody could get permission from Dustin to file the trademark, and it’s likely that he will go that route. From there it should be a done deal that Cody has trademarked his father’s likeness.

AEW Women’s Title Match Updates

There are some changes to the AEW Women’s Championship scene. #1 Contender Kris Statlander has a previous commitment on January 1st, so her title match has been changed to a fatal four-way. She will instead face the winner of that match on January 8th. Tony Khan also took to Twitter to explain the change.

One for the Road:

Expect a Get These Hips shirt soon.
