In a not so surprising turn of events, Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman is set to undergo a pair of surgeries according to Karen Guregian of the Boston Herald. He will get work done on both his left shoulder and knee to fix issues that plagued him for much of the season.
Despite the injuries, Edelman played in all 16 games for the Patriots and registered his second career 100-catch season in addition to a career-high 1,117 yards receiving and six touchdowns. In a season of inconsistency from the Patriots wide receiver group, Edelman was consistent as ever.
Signed through the 2021 season, Edelman is one of the few certainties for the Patriots offense moving forward. In addition to the pending free agency of quarterback Tom Brady, the future of Josh McDaniels still hangs in the balance as he interviews with the Cleveland Browns for their head coaching vacancy.
In the very likely scenario that Tom Brady returns and Edelman returns to health, they are likely just a few pieces away from making another deep playoff run. Another season with McDaniels running the offense would be ideal but if he does get the Browns job, the offense will adjust.
