According to a Wednesday report from WTVF in Nashville, Tennessee, New England Patriots cornerback Joejuan Williams was arrested last Friday on drug possession charges.
The WTVF report detailed that a Tennessee Highway Patrol officer allegedly found “an unnamed controlled substance, prescription drugs and drug paraphernalia,” in Williams’ vehicle during a traffic stop on January 17, 2020.
The 22-year-old Nashville native is also facing charges for speeding.
The Patriots selected Williams in the second round of the 2019 NFL Draft (45th overall) out of Vanderbilt. He appeared in 10 games as a rookie (including one postseason game) playing primarily on special teams. Williams played 80 snaps as a reserve defensive back.
This is the second such incident that has befallen a member of the Patriots defensive backfield within the past six months. Safety Patrick Chung was indicted in New Hampshire on August 8, 2019 for felony possession of a controlled drug. The charge stemmed from a June 25 incident in Meredith, New Hampshire, when “Chung did possess or have under his control a quantity of the controlled drug cocaine,” according to court documents.
Last Monday, the Belknap County (NH) Attorney’s Office announced that the charge against Chung was conditionally dismissed, pending Chung’s compliance with court-ordered drug testing and community service.
