New York Giants running back Saquon Barkley is excited about the changes made to the team’s coaching staff.

Barkley spoke with new offensive coordinator Jason Garrett shortly after he’d been hired.

“One of the first things he told me was, ‘You know I like to run the ball, right?’” Barkley said Wednesday in an interview with New York Newsday from Radio Row at Super Bowl LIV. “I was like, ‘For sure, I already know that. I’ve been on the other side of that for the last two years watching Zeke’ (Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott).”

Garrett was Cowboys head coach for nine seasons before he was let go three weeks ago. Barkley has yet to speak with Elliott directly about Garrett but has heard many positive things about his new offensive coordinator. He also said he is excited to hear about how the new Giants regime plan on using him in the new offense.

As for new head coach Joe Judge, Barkley said he has already had a sit-down with him.

“Had a great conversation with him,” Barkley said. “You can tell it’s not a joke. We’re gonna be in there and we’re gonna be ready to work and he’s gonna try to lead us to be the best team we could possibly be.”

Barkley will also have a new running backs coach in Burton Burns. Burns hasn’t coached in since 2017 as his latest position was assistant athletic director at the University of Alabama. However, Burns has received a ringing endorsement from one of his most famous pupils: former Heisman Trophy winner and current Baltimore Ravens running back Mark Ingram.

“Saquon is elite and I think (Burns) is going to add value to Saquon,” Ingram said in an interview while on Radio Row. “Obviously Saquon is special and I think Coach Burns will give him tools that will help him be even more special.”

In addition to Ingram, Burns helped groom the Tennessee TitansDerrick Henry, the New Orleans SaintsAlvin Kamara as well former NFL backs Eddie Lacy and Trent Richardson.
