The Wrestling Roundup is here to bring you all the news and rumors you need to know in one place.

WWE SmackDown Results

Friday night saw Goldberg return to WWE. We knew that the reason he would be on the show was to say “what’s next”, and that would mean a match for Super ShowDown. Who did he choose as his next opponent? What other fun stuff happened to close out the week of wrestling? Check out the full results below:

  • The Usos def. Robert Roode & Dolph Ziggler
  • Elias def. Cesaro
  • Daniel Bryan def. Heath Slater
  • Sheamus def. Apollo Crews
  • Carmella def. Alexa Bliss, Naomi, & Dana Brooke in a fatal fourway match to become #1 Contender for the SmackDown Women’s Championship

WWE SmackDown Takeaways

Goldberg’s next opponent? “The Fiend” Bray Wyatt. Goldberg had been mic’d up backstage and was talking about what was next for him when Wyatt interrupted. Wyatt seemed to get right under Goldberg’s skin during the segment. No one truly expects Goldberg to be the one to upend The Fiend’s title reign, but having another solid win over a legend will add to the lore of Wyatt.

The King Corbin-Roman Reigns is still going. Corbin continued to call out Reigns, and the two will settle their differences in a steel cage match in Saudi Arabia. This has to be the definitive ending, right? It has been going on for so long. At this point we are stalling for time before Reigns goes after Wyatt.

Super ShowDown will have another women’s match. Bayley will defend the SmackDown Women’s Championship against Carmella on the show. While it will be another landmark moment as the first Women’s Championship match in Saudi Arabia, it will also continue to be falsely pushed as a sign of Saudi Arabia’s progression of human rights. The country continues to use sports and their big money partnerships to present themselves as better on human rights, when their actions continue to be widely condemned by the international community at large.

Anyways, Bayley & Carmella are a solid match-up that would be a halfway decent feud going forward. I still think Naomi is the best choice for Bayley’s Wrestlemania opponent.

Otis is ready for his date with Mandy Rose. I speak on behalf of internet fans everywhere: don’t break his heart, Mandy.

Taynara Conti Leaving NXT?

An up-and-coming member of the NXT roster has apparently walked out. According to Fightful Select, Taynara Conti has walked out of NXT due to being unhappy with her contract (h/t WrestlingInc). Reports indicate that Conti is still under contract with WWE, but apparently walked out in mid-January. Conti was supposed to participate in a battle royal on the January 15th episode of NXT but refused to. Whether this will lead to her release or not remains to be seen. Conti has been with WWE since 2016.

Buddy Murphy – A Buddy No More

WWE loves some things more than anything else: bringing in MMA stars, ignoring the existence of AEW, and shortening names of their wrestlers. We can now add Buddy to the list including Langston, Antonio, Aleksander, and Cien Almas. WWE is now referring to him as simply “Murphy”. It could have been worse – WWE could have called him Aussie M after the great success they’ve found with Shorty G.

One for the Road:

Alexa Bliss is the subject of a new song from Bowling For Soup. It’s legitimately not bad pop-punk, but the music video is still kind of odd. Since it is weird, of course we’re going to link you to it.
