Jake Muzzin is expected to be sidelined four weeks after suffering a broken left hand.
The rugged Maple Leafs defenseman was injured blocking by Tampa Bay Lightning defenseman Victor Hedman in the second period of a 4-3 win Tuesday.
Muzzin has 23 points in 53 games this season. He signed a four-year, $22.5 million contract (average annual value $5.625 million) with the Leafs on Monday, This is certainly going to be a massive loss for a team that already has allowed 213 goals against this season. The Maple Leafs could have 5 of the 6 defensemen who started game 1 of the Calder Cup for the Marlies. Maple Leafs GM Kyle Dubas will certainly regret not adding some depth on the backend at the trade deadline that’s for sure.
